Home Depot has the Kraylon stuff , it has a Jeep on the can. Check for the stuff in the sporting goods areas in Wal-Mart for the Duck Blind paint, got a friend (Mike) with a TJ painted with it, looks killer.

here it is, it's the dull one <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> http://www.cutter.rockcrawler.com/images/meeting8.jpg

Damn, it takes some nuts to spray-paint a new vehicle like that. I figured I'd be the only one crazy enough to do that. I likes it.

WALMART....the stuff works pretty good...the only thing is that it seems to be slighly different color from can to can....is this common with rattle can OD green?

If you want the "correct" stuff (as in the stuff the mil restoration types use) you can get it from:
http://www.rapcopartscompany.com/paint.html

It's very cool because you can get different shades depending on era (i.e WWII vs Vietnam etc.)

Another source might be:
http://www.aervoe.com/aervoe_main.html

But if "detail" isn't terribly important - that Wal mart stuff looks pretty good to me.

Cutter: That's the color I'm looking for. Can you be more specific about exactly what paint that guy used? TIA.

Blatant, it's the Duck Blind paint. I'll send him an email and see if he can get the actual color code for you. But, look for Duck Blind paint in Olive Drab...that's the paint he used, shouldn't have a problem.

I have a 43 MB and a 42 GPW (both G503's) I used the WWII OD lusterless which is correct for early WWII, it is a little bit lighter than the pictured TJ, but once it weathers and gets grease on it it looks awesome, the semi-gloss would be correct for later war 44' on, and then some of the staff cars and parade vehicles used a OD gloss, all of the later M-series stuff (korea, vietnam, ect) has a much more forest green hue to it. Most later paint is either semi-gloss or gloss. The restoration crowd rallies around Gilespie (sp) paints these days as they are made from the stock color chips and by the same company...

Final note: stencils should be flat white in an US Army setting, Navy used a light flat blue and WWII Seabees (AKA Marines) used flat yellow (vehicles were a forest green not OD) I have marking and unit info if anyone has interest...

Now he just need a 50 cal and pedistle mount

Yeah, the Rapco site is pretty cool, but I wish they showed actual color samples.

Regardless, I really like that TJ color. I think I'm going to buy that paint shown and have it matched at a local auto paint shop, so I can spray it rather than rattle can.

I'm not actually at that little get together. But my Jeep is around the same size as those.
I live in Frisco, just North of Dallas. Aren't you in JNT? I think I've seen your name somewhere?! Lots of trips to Gilmer, Clayton, OK, missed the trip to Mineral Wells, heard it was fun. Mostly I stay local, Denton trails have been one of my fav's until it was shut down. Marshall Creek is fun (near Grapevine). Send me an email if you need more info.

Matt, can you PM or e-mail me with marking info?

That is, if it is not considered in extremely poor taste for me to put 503 markings on my XJ. I do not want to do anything that is disrespectful in any way.

Thanks

PS - check my sig link for info on D30 building if you haven't read my other post in answer to your question.

I have never compared the prices, but while loking for a M416 trailer, I saw paint here:
http://www.galleria-e.com/cgi-bin/Colemans.storefront/Home

It's under 'hardware'.

Anyone know where I can get an M416 in the New England area?

I started painting my YJ with the rustoleum camo green and it scratches very easily. I can barley scrape it with my nail and theres a white line, I can't imagine it holing up at all to branches and trees hitting it. Is there a Dull clear coat or does tha paint suck. If theres not something else i can do i will just buy a case of spray paint from rapco.
thanks

Go to a army surplus store. They sell the real military OD Green. They sell it in gallons and I've seen spray cans. I think a gallon runs like $20. A gallon will easily cover the whole Jeep inside and out and you'll have enough for some touch-up paint. Just get a cheapie sprayer and a good filter to filter out any condensation from the air compressor.

Man, where the hell were you guys when I had to paint my piece. Couldn't find mil spec paint so I had to settle with tractor paint. Now, if it only pulled like an IH.
