: Thanks and Sorry, From CalROCS
Big Rich 11-19-2001, 09:07 PM Well, we did most of what we had set out to do. First I'd like to say sorry for the early gate closure on saturday. It was a confussion on the part of many that lead to us spending friday afternoon and evening in court, trying to save something that turned out to be very special. Getting served court papers just hours before needing to be there was not easy to swallow. Many were misinformed as to what was happening on sat. , but we did have bathrooms (that never got cleaned), we were organised, we had (if at least for a short time) a beverage concession, and there was to be a food concession at the event site (or so I believed). I won't go into blaming others, for as the promoter it was still my responsibility. So again I'm sorry to have had so many fans turned away and denied a chance to see what in my opinion was some of the most outstanding performances ever witnessed around these parts.
I can tell all of you that Bob and I have planned a series of events and we still plan to go forward with those plans. We (I) have learned and will not make the same mistakes again.
I like to thanks each competitor who got it, you all made the show. And thanks to those who are sharing the dream and have signed up to run in our multi class series for 2002. The judges who busted their a$$es not only judging, but helped in clean up and crowd control.
I'd also like to thank the spectators, with out your support and encouragement, it would not be possible to have plans for the future.
I thank the sponsors, who had to go all day saturday standing in an empty parking lot. I hope sunday helped.
Again, sorry if you missed the evnet, it was never my intention to have the public turned awayed.

Flatty 11-19-2001, 09:22 PM Rich, just wanted to say thank you!!!!! without you, this would not have happened. I had a field day, and even got my rig sold i think out there. Man, it is amazing how much carnage happened. Now i know what to build for the next event, and trust me, you will see me and my bro out there competing for 1st place as soon as I am done. Once again, Rich, thanks a million!!!

Old Scout 11-19-2001, 09:45 PM Rich please call me before you do this again. I have oil/gas/atf spill products made for use on water. I would be happy to pass them on at cost.

Big Rich 11-19-2001, 09:54 PM You must be the one with the sponze mats. The next events will not have any water, but when we go back (if the county of Amador let's us), I'd like to talk.
The Fish and Game dude came by on sunday and was impressed that there was no oil in the holes. Which he knew we had cleaned.
He also stated the as a fishing like and all the 2 stoke motors out there that the water in the lake would have heavier polution than the spillway area we used.

Can we get that in writing? That would help fighting any future court actions against the events. What was the beef with them in the first place?
Rich, we're gonna try something this year that might be of some use to you on concessions & whatnot. We're going to our state Fair Board convention in a few weeks. This is where the fairs hire a lot of the talents & events that they'll have during their county fairs & such. It's also where a lot of vendors meet up with event organizers. These folks with the mobile food & drink stands usually will come in & give you a cut of their action in exchange for you allowing them to sell food & drink at your event. Met one guy who has a van set up to cook pizzas & sell them, and then there are the popcorn stands, drink stands, etc. Where we do our mud races, they typically have permanent concessions facilities already set up, so we don't have to get the mobile carts in there. And we just get a local charity to come in & take care of the food & drink. In exchange for letting them sell food, we make them work the admissions gates. Anyway, I suspect CA has some sort of Fair Board convention, so you might want to talk to someone on a local Fair Board and find out when & where it is. Might make some good connections for next year.

H8monday 11-20-2001, 07:45 AM Thanks Rich,
I know that the county, and the powers to be had you "wading up to your ass in alligators" up untill the 11th hour. Yet, you pulled it off. They will certainly get easier promote now that you have a successfull event to your credit.
Thanks again for the oppurtunity to show the people in the Sacto area what Rock crawling is all about.
Its kinda funny, the jobsite Labor Foreman I have working for me in Roseville, came out to watch the event on Sunday. He owns a a 94 YJ, with all the chrome and steel aftermarket bolt ons. I saw the Jeep on the site this morning, and almost all of the chrome and stainless doo-dads have been removed, and hes talking to ma about how to stretch his wheel base.
onetoncv 11-20-2001, 08:27 AM Rich we thank you for all your hard work to keep it going! Hope I get to one next year!Jess
