I've got a good source on a two hydraulic brake systems, and was wondering if this is worthwhile for a rockcrawler. My concerns are you have no breaking power while the motor is not running, and possibly the heat of the fluid as the way they are set up now the fluid runs through both the master cylinder and the steering box.

As far as I know, all brake systems are hydraulic (except emergency brakes). I think you're talking about hydroboost? From what I've read, braking with the engine off is no worse than with a vacume booster. No fliud is shared between the steering & master cylinder, I think you mean the booster. It's not a problem on 1 tons, but I'd run a cooler anyway.
