: Trannie/T-case junction

When I rebuilt the 22r in my 86 yota, I pulled the trannie & t-case, and later separated the two.
When I put them back together I used a new gasket, bolted it up, and no worries.....for a while.
Later, The t-case kept loosing fluid (not an obvious leak), and the Trannie kept filling up. Eventually, it blew out the front seal on the trannie, and soaked the heck out of my new clutch (now cashed). I'm going to replace the trannie seal and the clutch, but I'd like to avoid this happening again.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
E:confused:

Hey y'all,
I have a couple of yota mechanics for friends and they couldn't help me with this. Could somebody please tell me if the newbie board is the appropriate place to ask this question?

This should be the place.
I don't know much about Toys, but it seems like you're missing a seal in there.

Good point. I'm pretty sure i used the manufacturer's spec gasket between the two. I just wonder if I didn't get "crap" in one of the two, or maybe I put the darn gasket in backwards or something.

Isn't the oil supposed to migrate back and forth between the trannie and t-case to some degree?

Thanks,

E:)

Gear oil from the t-case will fill in the cavity in the back of the tranny casting but won't actually raise the level of gear oil in the transmission unless the seal in the rear of the tranny is bad (the one that the input on the t-case goes through.)

I knew i should have replaced that thing when i had it out, hindsight being what it is.

Thanks very much!:emb4:
