It is part of the axle
Hope this helps.

Just Kidding, I have an 85 Grand Wagoneer with 44 front 20 rear that I will sell cheap. It has a 360 TF727 and quadra trac that is cracked in half.
This Jeep was run in the tough truck event at the Essex JCT. VT 4X4 Jamboree.

depends on the year waggie some of them had them on the left and some on the right. I have a 44 out of an 84 and it is on the left, want it?

Like he said. Waggy fronts came either passenger or driver side depending on the year. As for rears, 44's came centered (rare) or passenger side. They also had AMC 20's (centered). All depends on the years. I believe the early years had passenger side fronts.

i am not realy sure on what year it started putting the diff on the left but i am thinking that is was around 78 or 79 and before that it was on the right.

Don't all Jeep Dana 20 have a passenger side drop, and matching front axle? That's what I had thought at least.

Front 44 Right side diff until 80 then left side diff. The rear can be a 44 or 20, offset to the right, on most. The 20 will also have one piece axles.

If it has a D20 t/c, it has to be pass. side front & centered rear.
