There was a big thread about these the other day in the Toy Forum. Basicly they're pretty much the same type of design, however the quality of these is supposed to be better. We shall see what the future brings ;)

BTW, I just wanted to let all of you know I'm disrespectful at times and I apologize for my previous post here regarding this new product. It may take them some time to ramp up and have a locker available for my Samurai.
I did not see the "Vendor bashing will NOT be tolerated in this forum!" sentence in the rules at the top of the forum, again my sincerest apologies for being such a a huge asswipe. I sure hope Lance does not ban me, I bet if I screw up one more time i'm gona get axed from PBB.

When you go to the SHOP page there is an option to check on other models that are not on the current model page. There is an Acrobat note and all you have to do is to click there and this takes you to the model list that includes engineering programs in process. Next up will be the Ford 8.8" and 9". Following that is the GM 12 and 14 bolt units.
Thanks you for your interest in the Aussie Locker......

Shipping costs for the Aussie Locker is $14.00 per unit. This includes insurance and the rate is good for anywhere in the lower 48 states. We use UPS Ground for all shipping.

We will not wait any longer for these since there is no E.T.A. and we have been waiting allmost a month.

There are so many possible growing pains in a company. Although there are obviously no excuses, it's safe to say that CHIT will happen.
It's not like the guy has charged up a bunch of credit cards and is refusing to repay.
It's not even like they guy is not telling you what is going on and keeping you all in the dark.
He's got a product that he WANTs to get out there but his suppliers can't stand up straight. I'd rather he switch suppliers then wait. That is what he has done.
Relax - Soon you'll hear the good and bad once the lockers are in.
Not making excuses but I remember waiting a LONG time, in the dark, for a product that was charged to my card immediately and then took months to have it re-credited due to a 4month delivery wait.
Keep that in mind

Yes, we had a spring availability and product performance problem with our spring vendor. They had a machine breakdown that required parts from Europe, and those were delayed. When we got the springs they were short and would not accept them even thought the difference was 1mm. They then informed us that they could not produce the spring to full specification in the volumes we require. We had to find and qualify a new spring vendor and that has been done. We are expecting springs to be shipped to us this week and we have product setting in boxes just waiting for the springs. We are now expecting to have product in the air to us on the weekend or on 9 June at the latest. First available will be Toyota, Dana 44 and AMC 20. The balance of the Dana models will follow very quickly.
We have not charged anyones credit card for a locker that has been ordered. We have also notified our customers of this problem and have given them the option of cancelling or keep the order and getting a gift certificate of appreciation when we ship. I am pleased to say that we have had only 3 orders cancelled.
We certainly apologize for this delay. However, our commitment to quality is absolute and if it costs us business to ensure the highest quality locker on the market, so be it.
Thanks to everyone for their support and questions. Please let us know how we can assist you.

I know that people get frustrated when what they expect does not come through. Heck, I lead THAT bunch  but in that situation, you usually end up with no communications, a charged card, wasted phone bill costs and a super bad taste in your mouth every setteling with the credit card company.
Fortunately, that's not so in this case. It's a new product in a large market. Things are bound to happen.
If you run into anything else, just keep us informed! Thanks Bill.

The most information that I can offer is this:
Email response recieved 6/12/03
"Our new vendor had to order some new equipment to meet our specification and they have done so at great cost to them. The initial test run was right on spec. so we gave them to go ahead for full production. They were to ship this week and while I was hoping that "this week" meant Monday it also means "Friday", but as of this morning everything looked like we would have them in our production facility Tuesday or Wednesday. This would enable us to ship to the USA by the end of the week and unless we get hit with a customs delay to our customers by end of the following week. Clearly a painful departure from our business plan."
I would imagine we'll see them before July.
The big UCP 2-event is in August. It would be nice to test these out before we get to the event.

The Dana 60 product development program is on our list of new products to be introduced. The engineering schedule was set back due to engineering having to be deeply involved in our spring vendor sourcing and qualification. We will be meeting with engineering next month to discuss our plans, and timing, and then will be in a much better position to advise customers when they will see certain models for purchase.
Since the Dana 60 is a large diff I do not expect that the Introductory Price will be the $199.99, but I know it will be less than any other product on the market.
Thanks for your continued interest in the Aussie Locker.

Unless R&D is cheaper on these models and in turn less time consuming and expensive, I believe that the D60 may me a more profitable route prior to the Toyota 7.5 or the Ford 8.8. The 9" is widely used and is possibly a larger market then the d60. I know that the 8.8 is a popular choice for the YJ rear swaps but not as much as the D44 or D60 swaps.
Just thinking out loud.

Let me see if I can help you guys out here.
First off, the first shipment of lockers has been shipped out of NY. They are not being shipped directly from Aussieland to you.
As I understand it, now that the spring vendor has been qualified and the testing complete, production should be consistant and a normal flow of lockers will begin shortly. With the normal flow of lockers comes the "in stock" availability. Unfortunately for both Aussie Lockers and the customer, the problems with the spring vendor caused a HUGE back-log in product availability. This is now cured. :D
I should have my 3rd member back tomorrow and it will be "backyard" tested until the UCP Event (http://www.lieblweb.com/UCP/UCP.html) at Paragon AP (http://www.paragonap.com) and Rausch Creek (http://www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.com/home.asp) on August 9th and 10th.

No ground UPS shipping in AK, air only...Which costs $$$. Most of the time shipping is more than the product.
The reason I asked is I initally assumed they were being shipped from Aussieland, so shipping to me would be comparable to you. I guess not.:(

You are the first one to wheel with this locker and you give absolutely no tech on it?
"No noticeable noice unless you were rolling around with your hubs locked"
Can you possibly ellaborate on this?
You've been wheeling how long without a front locker and now you have one and it makes no noticible difference? Spend some time will you? Give a decent write-up about the thing working in certain situations.

With all due respect, having not yet installed the locker but looked ot over very closely in my own hands - there is no reaosn why it should any different in it's function than a lockright or EZ locker.
There may be some slight design changes that would make it quiter, but it's function should be identical.

Yo man, I completely understand what you are saying but to just come back and say "it works" it rediculous. Did you "get it", "did you just stay mild? Did you feel anything strange? Was there ANYTHING negative? Even if you were giving a run down on a lock-right, people want to know the "real" information.
Also, the lockrights often fail in situations, was it put in the situation?

In what situations would this be? I'd like to know, since my rig has had a LR in it for 4 years of hard use, now running 38.5" SX's, and I'd like to not break it...
Yes, I've broken the pins... after 4 Newfield breaks...
Detroits break too when the inner axle goes, nothing is bulletproof.

Chill. It's a lockright ask other people how lockrights are. Besides DRM is doing a full write up and tech, I was just saying I like mine and it wheeled great yours might be different since your rig is different i.e. tires size and so forth. The only noise you get from the locker is when it locks and makes a clicking sound like all lockrights. Later:rolleyes:

I think you miss the point bud.. this item has been touted to be better than the lockright in several areas.. quiet and smooth operation was one of my concerns.. as well as no tire wear..
I understand that DRM is going to do a full right up.. if you didnt want to elaborate on the operation of the unit.. you probably shouldnt have announced that you had it in and was going to do some testing yourself..
I feel its only fair for those of us who have hinged our decisions to buy on the ok and particulard of those who braved in and bought it sight unseen. I know I dont have 200 bucks to spare to buy one to find it doesnt suit my needs.. I could use the 200 to put towards something that may.
Telling us to chill is holy unrealistic by any means... sorta like dangling the carrot on a string in front of us.
I am sure we all are certain of the fact that this item will lock the axles.. wether it broke during use, was it smooth in its transfer, if it clicked when it locked, how loud was it.. and was there a noticeable jolt (etc.) associated with it. In your use do you think there might be any less tire wear (if any) over a regular lock-rite? OR is this item exactly like a Lock-Rite that it truly does not merit any accolade or comment that would set it apart?
If you could elaborate on that I would be much happier than the lacking response you have provided so far.

No problem, no it did not break, i thought the locking action was very smooth with an audible click that could be heard barely over idle of my V6, no jolt what so ever, tire wear is not a concern with me since it is in my front axle. To give some specs on my vehicle I am running the locker in my toyota tacoma in the front d44, supercharged V6 and 35x12.50 MTRs.

We have asked engineering to do the Dana 60 family as soon as they have completed two Ford and two GM models that are currently in the schedule. We also have two additional Toyota models that are either in field test or are getting ready to be installed in vehicles.
Since the Dana 60 family of locker is larger and therefore uses more material and processing, the end cost has not been determined. However, we do know that it will be less than our competitors offerings. We will be bringing it out with "Introductory Pricing".
We apologize we are unable to provide you with better information at this time.

The Ford 9" will be a complete locker set, rather than just the drivers that our competitors use. They use the existing side gears in the diff, and our approach is to supply a full locker.
We will be introducing the Ford 9" and two Ford 8.8" Aussie Lockers in about 60 days.
how long do you plan on having them at this cost? I am interested, but I just started a new job so I will need to wait about a month. Will they still be $200??

Just finished installing an Aussie Locker in the front of my TJ d30.
This was my first locker install, it took me and a couple of buddies about 4 hours from very start to finish. That's including lots of breaks, and general goofing around time.
Install was fairly straight forward and I should get to test it out tomorrow. The instructions were a little vague in areas, but we figured it out after a little while.
I did back the Jeep out and drive it around the block to make sure I hadn't screwed anything up and I could defitely hear the locker clicking in the front during turns, it is a litlle quieter than a lock-rite, and there was absolutely no noticeable effect on steering.

No Dana 60 yet. We are still working an issue on the Dana 35 spacer than came up as we were doing final tests on the production run. We hope to have an answer early in the week, so we can notify our customers.
The Ford 9" and 8.8" family will be started right after we get the Dana 35 lockers on the way to the customers who have orders. The introductory pricing will be announced when they go into production, as we do not know costs yet, or the exchange rate between the Australian and US dollar.

We are traveling and had our inside sales person handling our phones. Our traffic on phones have always been heavy and it sometimes takes us a few days to get back to people, but our employee has been ill with the flu for the past week and has not been up to answering phones. Just getting out of bed has been a problem for him. We apologize for the problem in contacting us and we are working to get some backup for him.
As to our policy on charging. We only charge a credit card when we have the inventory to ship. So if you order today and we cannot ship for two weeks, you will not get charged until the product is ready to go out the door.
As to shipping scheduled. We expect to be shipping Dana 30 lockers on Friday of next week. The factory is scheduled to ship some quantity of Dana 44, Toyota 8" and AMC20 lockers before Christmas, but we do not expect to receive them until after Christmas. Toyota LC lockers are scheduled to ship early January. Additional Dana 44, Toyota 8" and AMC20 scheduled to leave Australia on Jan. 5, 2004.
Dana 35 models still in engineering and we will have at least four models. We are not expecting to see the first models out until late January and mid-March for the full product line to be available.
Any orders booked on our web site by 31 December 2003 gets the special introductory price.
For those who question our customer service, we can only point to having only one failure in all of the lockers we have sold, and we have many repeat customers. We are not a major parts wholesaler and we do not profess to have all the resources they do either, but then we do not charge you $240.00 for a locker than is not even close to the quality of the Aussie Locker either.

Ordered before Christmas, at the time I was told that I'd be on one of two orders:
1) Right after Christmas
2) Beginning of January
Today I get an email telling me that the manufacturer can't build these fast enough (something to that effect) and that they have no estimate on future shipping dates. Lovely....
The good news is that they don't actually bill you for this thing until it ships... The bad news is that if it ships two months from now good luck trying to communicate with an actual person to cancel your order before that date..
Just a realistic shipping date would be nice.

It's really frustrating watching everything negative happen all at once. My experience with Aussie Lockers has been nothing but positive. I was one of the first to install and run the Aussie Locker in the Toyota. I've never had a problem with it, and I never had a problem with communications or customer service either. In fact, I'm about to order up another for the 4Runner now.
If anyone has any doubts with regards to whether or not Aussie Lockers is an upstanding company, please feel free to ask. As we all well know, Chit happens and when it does, it's normally not a single-event. I would much rather wait for the product that works rather than have to tear my junk down more often.
There are a lot of folks out there making big strides w/smaller companies. Especially in the Toyota, Zuk and Jeep markets. I think we do them a great disservice by asking them to act like one of the larger Co's. They are really trying to keep up with the demand. Realize, that every time somone asks "do you have a locker for -this- application, they are R&D'ing to bring them to market. Do you have ANY idea what that takes?
Just my opinion of course.

I realize some of the pro's and con's.. and will continue to wait on the Aussie Locker. A small business should be expected, more so than a larger business to have great customer service. I am standing by Aussie to wait for the locker due to the price and positive things said by forum members. It's not like you need a lunchbox locker to run your rig so I can live with the wait..
.. however back to customer service, in a small business this should be crucial!! They don't have the big name, thousands of customers saying good things, and a long business history to speak good things about them. If I didn't know about this forum, I would have cancelled my order weeks ago. I never get through the phones.. and it takes weeks to respond to Emails. The business they are losing by this is of course their decision and sacrifice, but the amount of dedication, or lack thereof, willing to put forth to customer service speaks incitement to those of competitors and customers.

We have read the postings and have, of course received a lot of email messages and phone calls regarding the product delivery and associated customer service issues on the Aussie Locker.
No business owner likes to write his customers a letter saying that he is unable to advise them of when their order will ship. However, we were in a situation where that was the only honest thing to do, and we felt that our customers needed to know this so they could make other product arrangements if they were time constrained.
When we established the company we set the pricing and company customer service standards based on operating an Internet based business. Information on the company and product would be provided and an easy forum for ordering was to be a key part of the operation. A phone number was added not to serve as the primary focal point for model number information or for placing orders, but for spill over issues.
We love the fact that the Aussie Locker has received such a great acceptance in the marketplace and that our customers have exhibited incredible loyalty. We are off roaders and love to talk about our vehicles, the family sport we are involved in and all those things that make this an industry we are proud to be a part of. However, each call is averaging 16 minutes, and we do not have a dozen customer service people to handle calls. So our customers get transfered to the voice mail, and at the end of the day, we have been on the phone virtually all day, and there are up to 50 phone calls in the voice mail. We admit that we have not done a good job in handling this incredible increase in phone traffic. We are working to improve this but it is taking more time than we would like to admit.
We have placed on order significant quantities of inventory, but the factory is still capacity limited. Our quality standards have not slipped as our volumes have increased, but these standards result in lower yields from manufacturing runs. Some would relax the quality, increase the yields by at least 30% and live with the warranties. That is not the way we conduct our business.
We have a great product and a good price. We have exceptional quality and product performance. We are suffering in corporate infrastructure to handle the phone traffic and manufacturing capacity. All of those are being addressed and we can only apologize to those customers who have been inconvenienced.
We will do our best to improve these areas of concern.

I ordered a locker for a D44 on or around dec31/jan1. Bill, you gave me an order # and sent me info stating the payment wont be billed till it ships and another attachment that stated the delay in manufacturing and shipping. I have read and understand these, however I am at a stand still with my install and I am patiently waiting for the locker to arrive. My emails to you have been answered in a very timely manner and so far you have been very honest about the delays. I was a bit worried when every call I placed to you was sent to voicemail and I didnt receive any calls in return. I read this post and found out that I am not alone in this. I hope these delays in production can be overcome and you wont skimp on quality to provide quantity.
That being said, any ideas when you might get some D44 lockers in?

I guess by outhouse luck when I ordered my locker they were in stock and I received it promptly. When I installed it I had a problem with the installation of the unit. I sent a email to them late on a saturday night and early sunday morning received email from Bill by monday someone from their tec service department had sent me another email with some info that helped me out(problem was on my end not theirs) So I am up and going. I live in Wyoming and we've had our first real winter in a while this year so I haven't done any rock crawling yet but this locker has operated flawlessly in very deep snow. I and the group of people that I wheel with have been amazed with the results of this locker. Needless to say guys give these folks a chance if they were selling crap they would have a warehouse full of lockers and their service would be just as crappy. I'm very happy with the results of my Aussie Locker

Duck - it looks like we are giving them a chance and we are all waiting patiently for the product supply to catch up with the demand. The locker seeems to be working great for mostly everyone on here. Some of us are just growing a little anxious to get ours and run em. Bill and the crew that rep Aussie Locker have been pretty good about keeping the Pirate crowd updated on delays. Hell how many times have we had to wait on a trail because someone in front of us got hung up or broke unexpectedly? this is kinda like that. Just gotta grab another beer and wait it out.

Just received an email:
30 January 2004
Reference: Aussie Locker Purchase
We want to thank you for your recent purchase of the Aussie Locker for your vehicle.
When you placed your order we were temporarily out of stock. We had expected a shipment from the factory in Australia to be released the first week of January. We were just advised that a shortage of spacers has delayed the shipment. It is expected that some orders impacted by this delay will be partially covered by a shipment currently scheduled to leave Australia on 6 February. At this time we do not have the information on the exact model mix or quantities in the early February shipment so we are unable to advise you when your order will ship.
For shipments after the one expected next week we are waiting for an updated schedule from the factory. They have advised us that their allotment of steel with the proper alloy mix used in the Aussie Locker has been impacted by a shortfall in the global availability of this product. Therefore, they are not able to quote with confidence the next shipping schedules as they are dependent on the steel delivery being confirmed by their supplier. The delay could be as long as 6 weeks.
We apologize for the delay in shipping your order. We will notify everyone once we have a schedule we can confirm. We understand that you may have off road commitments that make waiting for the Aussie Locker to not be an option. If you need to cancel your order please let us know as soon as possible.
As is our policy, we have not charged your credit card and will not do so until we are ready to schedule your shipment.

I've been waiting on my rear locker since Dec but have since requested to change my order to a front locker (since they make the D30's) but haven't gotten an answer yet as to whether they will let me change my order or not. back at the first of december I bought mine for an AMC 20 and ordered the dana 30. never got the dana 30 but he told me ahead of time about it. so far with one real wheeling trip to the hammers, its held up quite well and is not bad to drive with on the street.
so, once you get them you should be quite happy. its just getting them is the problem.

Sounds good I guess. Kind of frustrating sometimes really, not that I am blaming Bill at all for the probs they are having. It's just for someone like me who has always wanted a locker and finally see's what may be the holy grail, cheap, strong, reliable, well mannered. Worst part is not saving up for it, but getting the thing to your door, lol. I've always had trouble finding the cash for what I want so it's a real turn around when you are throwing your money at it but you just can't get it.

All back orders will be filled with these two shipments and we will have some inventory
Toyota 8.875" (XD21230)
In final stages of production and expected to ship from Australia on Tuesday April 13. Given normal intransit time we expect to ship all orders by April 20. All backorders will be filled and we will have some inventory.
Dana 44 (XD14430)
In process and shipment from Australia expected no later than April 20. We are expecting to ship all backorders no later than April 29.
Toyota 8" (XD20830)
In process along with Dana 44 units. Expected to ship from Australia no later than April 22. We are expecting to ship all back orders by April 27/28.
AMC20 (XD92912)
Production run set to start on April 20, with shipment to us scheduled for April 28. Given normal transit times we expect to ship all backlog on or before May 4.
Dana 35 still not out of engineering. No date established yet.
Phones are manned 24/7. Any installation or warranty issue is dispatched to technical service within 30 minutes of receipt. 95% of all emails are responded to within 24 hours. Those that require research or information from Australia are normall responded to within 48 hours.
We appreciate the patience of our customers while we worked our way through a number of problems. One problem we have not had to address is reliability and our track record there is the best in industry.

The Dana 44 production run is a very large one, and we will have units for inventory. As we have seen, often shipments sell out before they leave Australia but we have purchased significantly larger orders, and the new high speed process the factory has installed is starting to make a difference in not only response time, but also in size of lots they can manufacture.
You are correct that my statement needed clarification in how it was worded. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

No the locker for this diff has not yet been released by engineering. They are still hung up on the Dana 35 family of Aussie Lockers, but they do have prototype units for the V6 in the field. Once they get the Dana 35 released, the V6 should be out quickly. At this time we have not yet set a price on the V6 Aussie Locker, but with the weakness of the US dollar against the Aussie dollar and the increase in air freight costs due to fuel surcharges it is not too likely we will be able to meet the introductory price of $199.99. We will keep it as low as possible.

No Dana 60 yet. We are still in the middle of the Dana 35 family of locker development. We took some development engineers and assigned them to work in getting the new higher speed manufacturing equipment and processes in place, so we did build in some of the delay, however, there were some other issues with what we found on the Dana 35 that will enable us to ensure that the Aussie Locker is the best locker for that model diff.
Our development schedule after the Dana 35, is the Dana44 for the aluminum diff, Ford 8.8 and 9", additional Toyota lockers and then on to GM 10 and 12 bolt. The two Dana 60 Aussie Lockers are after the GM

Are the lockers still 199.00?

That was the introductory special and we announced here in August that it would end on December 31, 2003. We have the Dana 30 in stock (XD13027) and the price is $229.99 plus S&H. You can order at www.offroadlockers.com

Dana 44 Aussie Lockers are still scheduled to ship from Australia this week. So far the last three shipments have left there within a two days of their schedule, so we are certainly hoping the trend continues.
