Roc Dog 05-15-2003, 05:53 PM Wondering if anyone has checked it out in the last week or two??? Crust and I are heading down there tomorrow (Sat May 16th) to go do some trail maintainence and wheeling on the rock piles??? Anyone interested in checking it with us?
overeasy 05-15-2003, 06:02 PM I may be wrong but is the 16th friday???
So you going Sat or fri?
I was down there a week and a half ago.
Trail was wet up top but dry the rest of the way.

We do want to go on Sat. but not sure about the rock pile. Does anyone know what the deal is with that? That is the only reason I want to go there is because of the rock piles...
Rudezuk 05-16-2003, 01:52 AM I heard the rock piles were off limits too....But that could be hear say...
If you find out let us know..
BMFNTOY 05-16-2003, 10:01 AM The rock pile is OFF LIMITS, there are signs at the bottom of the trail posted by Fish & Game that say you can't go beyond a certain point of which the rock pile is beyond.....

Well I guess that leaves that out for tomorrow. Then it is Prarie City and some other little spots around Folsom and El Dorado Hills for some minor fun. Doing a little Urban Wheeling!

Were there signs posted when you were down there talking about the the rock piles being off limits???
familybeast 05-16-2003, 11:14 AM I have been down there twice in the past couple of weeks and I didn't notice the sign but Fish and Game has been actively informing us that the rock pile is off limits. They were threatening to confiscate your truck if you were caught on it.
overeasy 05-16-2003, 07:11 PM Last time I saw the sign it was on the pine tree at the end of the trail. I did not look last time. But I know it was there. Call BLM and fish and game to find out forsure.
yota83 05-17-2003, 03:21 PM hey dave.....
the rocks are off limits......
last year i got caught passed out in the bed of my truck while it was parked on the rock pile at about ohh 8:30- 9:00am still drunk from the night before.....
all i got was a ticket and a $120 fine for trespassing..
but he did say that if i wasnt just parked there sleeping he would have impounded my shit.... i should have listened to every other rig when they said we should wheel out the night before....
the trail just isnt good enough without the rocks at the bottom....

Yea, Crust and I went yesterday. We were needing a low low fix but all we got were muddy scratched up rigs and Crust even got a bonus dented front fender and broken front light lens.
I did notice that sign at the end of the trail on the pine tree. Did Jurgen's once cant say I would do it again. If the rock pile at the end of the trail was legal then it would be worth it.
lilrasz 05-18-2003, 08:39 PM hey, i just got back from there about an hour ago, there were no signs by the rock pile......... only sign we saw said " stay off trail if wet"

the trail has some nice little flex spots and i would say is a great place for somone who's getting into the sport and wants somthing alittle more than the mud pitt in moms backyard.....:D
there are a few nice tight turns with some good washout to test youre suspension........
oh yeah..... the creek is off limits too..................:flipoff2:
Crust 05-21-2003, 05:12 PM Busted light= Karma. Yea the turns were the best part of the trail. Some little washed out sections were Ok but only 10-20ft long. I might use it to show the X-biotch what wheeling is like so she shuts her pie hole when I take my kids and they spill the beans. But may be not with all the poison-oak there. I could almost smell the shat.

i was up there for my berthday on the 21st of april 01 and was informed that the property was bought out and being shut down.....
yota83 05-22-2003, 05:40 PM i went up in june that same year and they had pushed big ass boulders into the trail head to block it off......
i was on my way to the con and wanted to verify the closure of bassi....... it looked pritty closed to me

Here's a couple pics I took last year. Such a shame. Bassi was one of my favorite places to kick it and camp out. Other trails will get the same treatment if people don't start wheeling responsibly.

Yeah it has been closed for a couple years now:(
It was a lot of fun for short day trips.
I lost all of last summer for wheeling due to a wasted engine, so I am looking for some new trails play on.
yota83 05-26-2003, 01:17 AM yeah i went there to take advantage of it once again before the closure and to celebrate my B-day as well......B-day was on the 21st and last day of Bassi was the 22nd....:(
i was soooo pissed that it was going to be my last time to hit the falls.... got some good pics though.... got a nice shot of my shit hood deep in the river....
chris_t100 05-27-2003, 01:27 PM Is the other way into the falls closed also???

From what I have seen, you cannot drive to the falls. Okay, most of us could, but it's not cool to drive over the boulders purposely blocking the trail.
The road following the north side of the river is closed by boulders and signs. The road a little farther north going to the top up above the falls is closed by a gate. The only other way I have ever been there is by taking Picket Pen road along the south side of the river and crossing the river up near the falls. I haven't been that way for at least 10 years, so I can't tell you for sure, but I do know you don't want to get caught driving up to the falls! Probably a steep fine and makes us wheelers look irresponsible.

calipup 06-02-2003, 04:27 PM you can still walk down to the falls which is completely boring if you've been there before but for newbies it's still pretty cool. the left fork of the main entrance will take you almost all the way there save a 5 minute walk.
chris_t100 06-05-2003, 10:35 PM I am soo pissed that this place was closed down. I have been going there since I was 5 or 6, now I have a 4 year old and I can't even show him.

I feel the same way. I spent many awesome summer weekends up there camping by the river or the falls, or hanging out on the cliff up above the falls.
I think that the trail could have been saved if it had a little more attention from organized wheelers. A few cleanup weekends and some bypass blocking and it would probably still be there.
Some people will argue this, the falls were an attraction, but it was too easy to get there. If the trail is too easy then there will be many more less 'wheeling' oriented people there who may not pay as much attention as we do when it comes to concepts like 'tread lightly'.
I picked up *a lot* of trash there, and saw a lot of stupid things going on. I even saw a bunch of gang bangers from Sac up there tagging trees. What a bunch of idiots. It should be legal to kill them on the spot and fertilize the forest with their otherwise useless carcasses.
