: what is your least favorite day of the year?
Macgyver 05-17-2003, 07:50 AM the other thread got me thinking. well, mine has to be Valentines day, or singles awareness day! so, it comes right after Christmas, so not only do you have to find the perfect xmas gift but less than 2 months later you have to find a better gift proclaiming your undying love! oh, and if your single, your screwed, but you can spend all your money on yourself to compensate!;)
i'm also not in to the Thanksgiving/Xmas holidays. if your away from home, it can be brutal. i hate the commercialization of christmas and the whole giftgiving stuff. i'm down with getting the kids gifts, but adults know how to shop for themselves. freaking stop leaving hints already, i'm NOT getting them! Take the Visa and go buy yourself what you really want and act surprised.:flipoff2:
Kitty Cat 05-17-2003, 08:10 AM Mines Christmas. I know hanging out with the family is the thing to do but when you have two sets to visit it just frustrating one year my mom and dad were fighting over my sister on the time that she wil visit them. Yes for the kids its great now to me it is just another day. But my favorite is T-giving. I much rather spend time my dude than my family on that day.
smbisig 05-17-2003, 08:24 AM I hate valentines day. I think its a scam. What the hell is it all about anyway? The only good thing about it is "YOU GET LAID"
The best day would have to be New Years and Saint Patrics Day. Its all about the     and more
The day after sucks though, a lot of throwing up an
 To all the 4x4 guys and gals out there
Radbassist 05-17-2003, 08:27 AM I could do without.......My birthday, Christmas, Valentines day, mothers day, fathers day, labor day, memorial day, easter, new years, new years eve, 4th of july, secretaries day and monday and tuesday of each week. :D
Roxywheels 05-17-2003, 08:31 AM My birthday. It used to be my favorite day until almost 5 years ago when my brother died on my b-day and then the following year my ex left me on the same day. :( Since that time I have had a $hittty (actual) b-day, being dissed or stood up with the exception of one year when some friends at work took me out drinking. Keep in mind I am not referring to my b-day bash....that doesn't happen on my *actual* b-day. :roxy:

moveaside 05-17-2003, 09:10 AM Halloween my kids are Jehovah's Witnesses(not me) and we have to pull them out of school and deal with tons of people coming to the door all night that don't get the hint about the front porch light being off.

MattS 05-17-2003, 04:32 PM The day every year the doctors office calls and says I'm due for my checkup. I'm as healthy as it gets. Don't drink (well, not too much LOL) smoke or do any other harmful sheot. But they still want to check stuff out every year. Thank god I'm not a woman. No way could I deal with THAT every year!
If I'm not within an inch of dying there is no way I'm going to the doctors office!

True that, throwing hay is my all-time least favorite thing. Next up the list was the one day I worked in a meat packing plant, and then throwing straw comes in 3rd I guess. But, I haven't had to screw around with hay in a long time.

Hold on just a fucking second--You kids are JW's and you've got the balls to complain about people coming up to your door and not taking a hint?

I don't like Christmas. It's become a contest to see who can spend more. How much you love someone =how much you spend. It's retarded. I think Christmas is about being with the people you love. I give gift cards. Kids always get toys from me because socks and underwear suck when you're young.
I don't like Valentine's Day. Mostly because I don't have a GF. I usually spend GF-less V-Days drinking with friends. This past Valentine's Day sucked because I was flat broke (bounced paycheck!) and had $20 to take Mina out. She's a bitch so I'm glad I didn't spend more than $20.:D
Easter? I skip that one.
Memorial Day and 4th of July - I party hard. Tits are everywhere. I don't have to buy anybody anything. These are good holidays. :D
Labor Day - an extra Memorial Day.
Halloween - There's no way in hell I'm putting on makeup n' shit. I'll dress normal and check out the freaks. I hope my fawking truck didn't get egged or broken into.
Thanksgiving I have dinner with friends and family. I often cook dinner myself and I love to see people enjoy my cooking. Great holiday.

Matt, do what I did. Get a woman doctor. "Small finger". :D :D :flipoff2:
Grim Reaper 05-18-2003, 05:15 PM Every thing is pretty cool except the days when one of my wifes or my close family has died.
Holloween is my favorite. Love banging on the doors of JW's with the light out. Sort of my way to get back at them showing up at dinner time banging on mine several times a year trying to save me. :flipoff2: Then I can come back on X-mas and sing carrols.
Holloween is a day to celebrate the lives of those past. Day of the dead. It has become many other things. Here are a few chunks of it's history.
Celebrations of ancient rituals remain, but in somewhat different forms. Children used to go door to door begging for items to burn with the witches. Today they go door to door trick or treating for candy.
Lanterns made out of gourds were left along paths to guide the way home for ancestors while others were carved with scary faces and carried or placed on porches to ward off the demons and witches. These lantern gourds are now the fancy and fun carved jack-o-lanterns we see today.
Of all the Pagan holidays, Halloween was always the most popular and widely celebrated. It is not a holiday of evil, as it was originally meant to ward off the evil that might walk the earth. On All Hallows Eve it is said that the separation between the worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest.
For the record a lot of the "holiday's" such as Valentines day, Mothers day, Fathers day are the result of card companies making them popular to sell more cards. Look it up. If it had not been for the card companies valentines day would have pretty well been forgotten. Comercialazation at it's finest!
And for the record...I really don't hassle the JW's. To each his own. Just honor my no solicitation sign on my door and I'll not have to press no tresspassing charges when it's ignored.
Not to be a fuddy duddy I don't think any holidays other then Thanksgiving and the 4th of July have any buisness being honored in schools. Our culture is diverse enough that celibrating "religious" holidays in school that are strongly biased towards christian is not right. It's all or none as far as I'm concerned and it's a hell of a lot easier to do the none. That stuff should be for home and with your congrigation unless it's a private religious school that all the students are the same denomination. Personallay I try to teach my kids a little about all religions and tolerance along with it.
Pazuzu 05-18-2003, 07:39 PM I don't really have a bad day of the year, but Kristen's is May 28 (day of her accident).
Closest thing for me woulda been Sept 5, the day my ex-wife climbed on a plane and left me. Yeah, it was for the best, but it still hurts losing someone you were with for 6 years.
But then I have a best day, March 20, day I met Kristen. :D
Keyster 05-18-2003, 08:40 PM Not exactly a yearly event.
Election day.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
Historian Alexander Tyler wrote this observation well over 100 years ago.
