here's the deal. skyjacker 2.5" springs, sua. stock (until today) length shackles. rebuilt the axle about 4 weeks ago and measured the caster on the top of the axle with a mag. angle finder ( steering arm off, brake line out of the way) measured -4 degrees. this syncs with the alignment i got a few months back- report says -3.8. just replaced the shitty, beat up stock shackles with some new (thanks fixxxah!! ;) ) +1" shackles and tried to remeasure the caster. of course, i didnt want to pull all that stuff off the knuckle to do it, so... can i check the angle on the top of the diff? if i put the finder on the top of the diff, it measures about -6, which makes sense with the longer shackles, right? the other question i have is: if i didn't have longer shackles to begin with, why was my caster off? from what i understand, the spring lift shouldn't affect the caster angle. am i right? steering is scary on the freeway, handles like a fat kid on a skateboard (no offense, fatkid) anyway, will caster correction shims fix this, and where should i get 'em?

Not sure why your caster may be off to begine with, but you can get shims at various places. I think SOR sells them, maybe Summit. They aren't very expensive.

Longer shackles with shackles in front will make the caster more positive. If you are SR, longer shackle will make it more negative. New springs can change caster too depending on where the center pin is located. If you have positive caster it usually hadles shitty. Have an alignment shop measure the caster and if you have positive caster, you needs some shims. I gotta give a plug to all those alignment guys.

haven't gone to sr yet. i'm not a fabricator type (i don't even weld..{ducking from all the crap flying my way now!} ) and i think that is the way to go in the future. i'm running 33x12.50's and landpimp mentioned that he thought that with the wider tires it would be a good idea. i'd rather not spend $200 for a kit and i'm looking into the "swap the hanger" type of set up, but i need specific info before i attempt it ( like the position of the front hanger, should i try to drill the frame or weld a shackle hanger, etc..) the kit idea sounds good on the surface, but the $$ and the opinions of the rest of the world makes me think otherwise:rolleyes:
