My friend told me today, "I have a 16 bolt chevy rearend." Correct me if i am wrong, but my friend is a dumba$$ because there is no such thing as a 16 bolt chevy rearend. I looked at the outer axles closer, and noticed that they wernt even FF. Please put something good on here that i can pring up and take to him. Thanks. Have a good laugh.

A "X" bolt axle refers to the number of bolts that hold the ring gear to the carrier.

10 bolts hold the ring gear on. 14 bolts hold the ring gear on

I was talking about the outer diff cover.... but i know what you are saying. I have a fourwheel adventures issue that has nothing said about a GM ring bolt carrier with 16 bolts holding on the ring gear. I do know that the 14 bolt ring gear is held on by twelve actual screws, but the 14 bolt got that name by the number of bolts holding on the differential cover.......

The SF14B, FF14B, 12B all have 12 bolts holding the ring gear on. I've the "its the # on the ring gear" too, but it's crap.

GM did make axles much bigger than the 14bolt for some of there commercial stuff but I dont think thats what your friend ment. I think the gm stuff goes all the way up to like a 14" ring gear

GM made 2 1/2 ton axles for military and commercial use but, not as many of those are out there like the rockwells

That may be so, but on a stock 90's model chevy 4x4 i seriously doubt that he has a commercial FF axle. And i am pretty sure that it isnt even Full Float. don't pretty much all c-clip axles have the same wheel outers?
