: Anyone running a phase converter?

I just picked up a CNC milling machine for my garage/shop and it runs on 220 3 phase. I've been talking with a few phase converter companies and have heard anything from 5hp model to a 15 hp model... The machines spindle is 3hp and I was told the computer and servo's equal about another 3 hp.

I'm trying to figure out what I need because if I go with the 15hp unit it needs a 200 amp service and my whole house is only 100 amp...

Before I bought the thing I was told the most I would need would be a 7.5-10 hp model but of course after purchasing it I am told different...

Anyway, any input on sizing would be great:D

There is no way you can make it work so you should just give it to me since I have acess to 230 3 phase.:flipoff2:

What's the draw on the mill? I guess that's really what you need to accomodate. How big is the mill?

All I know on the mill is that it's 3hp and 220 3 phase... It's being delivered on Friday so then I will know what the motor plate says but until then I'm working with the diff. phase converter companies...

This is the mill:

It's a Tree Journeyman 310 3hp. I can't see how that thing would need a 15 hp phase converter...

I've got a 200 amp service but it's split into two meters with 100 amp mains on each... I would have to shut everything off to run the thing on a 15 horse model...

I think your answer is on one of these threads: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=624989&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

I remember reading it a while back but I'm not reading all that again. :flipoff2:

I don't see how you'd need a 15HP model, but I'm no electrician, either.

I'd be interested to see the end solution.

Ok I read every single one of those pages and there is nothing about sizing:flipoff2:. It's all about what they are and how they work and how to build one... I know that part, but I am just not sure on how to size one for cnc equipment... Thanks for the info so far though fellas:)

Thanks for the info, I'll wait till the machine gets here Friday since they will most likely want to know all the motor plate specs and such...

What size converter are you running on what hp mill?
