: 22r motor

what year did they go to the taller block, was it 84 or 85:question:

also, how do you tell what year a 22r came from:question: my buddy has 1 sitting in his garage,but he is not sure what year it is.anyway to tell by #'s or something maybe:question:

I think it was 85. One thing I noticed on mine is that the later style exhaust ports are pear shaped, while the early ones have a circular port, with another small hole above it. Also, the early motor used a double rollar timing chain, and the later one a single, but aparently these are swapped all over, and it's not a reliable way to tell.

I Believe that in 1985 toyota changed the block because these heads are slightly different to accomodate fuel injection, they also have a square valve cover instead of the rounded style i belive.
Also in 82 toyota 22r's had a stock double roller timing chain from the factory which also came with steel roller guides. In 83 toyota went back to single roller chain and plastic guides, both 82-83 came with a rounded style valve covers. Hope that helps alittle:eek:
