See, wasn't so hard.

They are legal. I believe Bronkzilla is from Cali, and he used to run them. He had a bad experience though. Tire came off, and rolled down the road.

Why didn't you just answer his question in the first place?

Lots of companies sell wheel spacers for use in California and they are not market "for off road use only". That doesn't specifically answer your question but I would not expect to have any issues with law enforcement if you are running them. They have become standard issue in the front of solid axle Toyotas.

i ran them for a total of 36 hours. the lugs stripped and the tire went down the street and into a little car.

Yes, they are highly illegal in the state of California.

By now, your local law enforcement agency has tracked the location of your computer and the SWAT team will arrive within minutes-remove this post and never mention them on this board again.

what style spacer were you using? If you were using the style that bolts to the axle, then the wheel bolts to that it will add no more stress to the lugs then a wheel with heavy offset.

If they are illigal who cars, how are you gonna get cought? Quality spacers are safe and reliable.

They ran a piece on the nightly news here in Colorado, recommending them  for every SUV...

I guess Liberties are too top heavy for most soccer moms.

the spacer itself bolted to the axle. the spacer had a set of studs pressed into it which you used to secure the wheel to it.. when the lugs stripped and the tire fell off it took the spacer with it.

Dunno if they are illegal, but they scare the crap out of me.

I've seen two instances where spacers resulted in a lost wheel. While quality ones may be safe, and I may just have unlucky friends, I'd still rather just switch to a wheel with a different offset. Really doesn't cost much more than spacers, unless you have some serious bling-bling wheels.
