Well, I have a 93 2wd Ranger w/ a 4 popper in it. I was wondering how difficult it would to swap in a solid axle to it. I was thinking the D44 and 9" Outta an EB. I would also throw in either a built 4.0 or a mostly stock 5.0. I'm just wondering what type of things would get in the way of this swap. The only thing I can think of would be the engine crossmember. I know the 2wd and 4wd Rangers have different crossmembers, but I don't know how they differ, or what problems would arise.
And input or advice for the swap? :confused: :D

Hmmm...
new T-case...BW would be easiest...
new motor mounts...
new motor...all the SEFI wiring...
mods to your tranny's output shafts or some hella custom adapters...
Seems like a bust to me... ever thought of just biuying yourself an old EB?
It's a hell of a lot more cost efficient and sexier too.
It would also mean you'de have a second vehicle to get you to the parts store.

The cheapest way to go if you kept your current engine would be a divorced transfer case. OTT industies has a kit to divorce a Toy case which would be kinda cool other than that the only comon divorced case I know of is a 205 or a nissan case ( I guess sami too but that has too be too small)Tons of people do the EB solid axle conversion on rangers that part you should be able to copy fairly easy.
If you want to do the engine swap and a 4.0 is good enough for you you should really consider selling and buying a 4 litre ranger you will be a lot of time and money ahead. If you do a swap might as well go 5 litre I don't know what the smog issues are where you are at but plan to spend $4000 and 2-3 months of weekends and weeknights getting the swap all legal. There are just a lot of little details you have to chase down.
If you go 5 litre you have to change transmissions so you would want to go with an EB trans and transfer case most likely 435 or C4 and dana 20. Those costs add up pretty quick too.
The engine cross member needs to get hacked for the solid axle to clear anyway so it is no big deal with that part if you sart with a 2wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.
