A thought crossed my mind so I thought I'd ask. How hard would it be to swap a carbed 4.2L engine into my '86 XJ in place of my 2.8L V6. I know the injected 4.0 is better but a whole lot more $$$ and work. I have the Auto trans and NP241 (I think haven't looked in a little, it's selec-trac). I'm assuming I'd need a new BH, fuel lines, & bigger radiator. Anything else or is it too difficult to even think about?

major work, not enough room, they changed things in the engine bay when they put the 4.0 in. its possible, but you may want to look into a 3.4 that has the same bolt pattern as your 2.8 or a 4.3 that is short enough to fit well.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case, wanted some info from someone more experienced. I read alot about the 3.4 swap and if I ever have the time & $$$ I think I might try it. Or just save up and buy a 4.0 5sp XJ.
