: Live axle swap-Shackle in Front or Rear?

Folks, I'm dropping a front D60 under my '90 Bronco. I've been going back and forth on how I want to attach it. Well, I'm using leafs of course, partially 'cause I like the simplicity and partially 'cause I don't have the means to fab anything fancy.
Anyway, I've got several different hangers off two different trucks. I can easily put the shackle up front, or with a little more work I can put the shackle at the rear.
Highway ride is important, but I'm not afraid of a harsh ride. I know some rockcrawlers like the shackle up front because it'll push the front wheels into an obstacle or ledge.... so which works better off-road? Can I expect a bone-jarring highway ride if I put the shackle up front? I'm trying to get an idea of how drastic the difference is from one setup to the other. All input appreciated!
The truck is used on Moab-type terrain and Colo mtn passes, but it's not uncommon to drive 6+ highway hours on weekends to get where I'm going.

In the back is better for your application it is pretty much jeep guys that like them in front because with a shackle reversal on a jeep it is hard to keep the tires out of the fenders, but the tire can move forward without hiting anything. and because jeep made it that way so it must be better. One thing to remember is that with the shackle in the back you are going to need a long travel drive shaft which will cost a bit more.
