my friend has a hercules 4 cylinder diesel moter. i think the engine code is a d198er. he wants to put it into his truck and ad a turbo charger to it. we have no tranny. its an old military generator. he got it from a farmer that had jimmy rigged it to a ford 2 wheel tranny. is there anywhere on the internet that has more info on these motors? any adapters to hook up a transfer and tranny to it. i guess with a turbo it'll put out near to 200hp with 320 ft/lbs torque! awesome
thanks
There was a company that was installing (re-powering) these engines in old Dodge power wagons (army ones)
They were in Texas I think
This is from an old Fourwheeler Mag
The simplest way to mount most Diesels is to find out if it has an SAE bolt pattern (and what it is) then you will have to find a Bellhousing that matches the Tranny you want to run.........

the bell housing (from what we found on the internet) is a perfect circle. i haven't seen it though. its 200 miles away.

This guy Charlie seems to pop up in Diesel rooms alot, sorry I don't have a current Email for him. He would be the one to talk to.
If the bolt pattern is a perfect circle, it may be a SAE#3, and if that is the case, then you could bolt up a Spicer 3053a (out of a military duece and a half) It has a granny low and a overdrive, plus they can be had cheap. Only problem is they are huge (think SM 465 only twice as large and then on steroids). It would be worth looking into.
