I copied this from a Powerwagon dissertation from Charlie Aarons.

"A way around the transfer case problem, for more money: Use a married
NP205. Use either a WW2 Dodge axle with centered diff, buy a 14 bolt GM
Corporate axle from Boyce for $1050 with 4.88 gears, or convert the
NP205 to have an offset output. Some parts from your NP200 might help.
The NP205 has been put together this way "by mistake" in the past, I
don't see why it's impossible to do it intentionally. "

With the recent post you made on the dual output 205, do you think the output could be offset in a 205 to match the offset rear end of a FJ40?

The above is a link to his article. Kinda cool!

well i don't beleive we could power up the 2 same side output for a normal rig - unless it becomes a full time rig- Jess

Here's another way to do it, almost the same way:
The NP200 is the New Process predecessor to the 205. Same big ears, same bearings, but coarse splined yokes. And another difference: offset rear output.
BUT: the emergency brake output is centered, in the rear. It has a 4 bolt pattern identical more or less to the standard M37 yoke. M37 and postwar Dodge Power Wagons use a 1.96 ratio, WW2 WC62/63 6X6s use 1.50 in low range. Otherwise identical. The two rear facing outputs turn together in high and low range and in either 2WD or 4WD.
The 205 is considered "more desirable" primarily because of fine splines and of course centered output. The centered output reduces noise and heat. But if you're going to need the offset output anyways it's just as good as a 205 built for double rear outputs.
The best thing is the availability and price. I just bought one locally for $200. They go for $2-400 in excellent condition. The 1.50 low range ratio WC62/3 ones are more just because of rarity.
They are divorced only, though I'll bet some creative person could cobble together a married adapter.
Jess, I haven't finished the Perkins diesel/NP540/Carryall project you made the driveshaft for yet, I need to move the transfer case back a couple of inches. I need to pull it into the garage, it's cold and dark and snowy out.

charlie - thanks for the info- when you get it close snap a pic - we want to make sure yours is where it needs to be- its kinda short splines - Jess
