im working on a 96 lt1 swap and the axles are gonna be the next project soon as the funds justify it.
im leaning towards rockwells but im not sure yet.
Thru my search efforts, the only disadvantage i can find is how freakin heavy they are. the lt1 seems to have the right torque/hp #'s for these axles but i just wanted some opinions. i also think that choosing between rockwells and maybe a dana 60,14 bolt combo will affect how i want to set up the suspension. im at a fork in the road so to speak, and dont know which way to go. Any suggestions?? by the way the rig is an 87 yj

I have a buddy (convertiyota) that runs rockwells / 44" TSL's and a 22RE 4 cylinder. I was wheeling with him on saturday and he had no problems with power. He does have dual case though.

What kind of suspension setup do you want to go with? You should have plenty of power.

im thinking about a 4-link for the rockwells, because im getting the impression that leaf springs wont fly well. im still mulling the whole thing over though

I borrowed a buggy with a LT1 and some rockwells, 205 and 44s.
It was a DOG. The motor dosent come on untill 3000 rpm. Granted when it comes, its there. But there was no low speed crawling.
In my opinion, use a atlas or some other 3.0 or more T-case to keep the rpms up. Or super charge the LT1. The one I drove ended up with a supercharger and it was then cool.
