I bought a 1980 W-20 and the engine has a serious vibration. I'm thinking someone swapped the engine and re-used the flexplate from the old motor. How can I tell (without tearing the heads off) what engine this is? Any marks on the block or numbers I should be looking for? Oh yeah, its not a big block.

thanks

Look on the side of the block it will be cast in there or it is stamped into the driver side front of the block below the head..another way to tell is the 360 harmonic balance has an oval shaped weight on the back while the 318 is perfectly round(unless it has been rebuilt and replaced with the wrong balancer)..

look on the side of the block, under the exhaust manifold, it should be cast into the block. I can't remember which side though, I'm thinking it's the passenger side.

I just checked mine........Lets say the balancer is bolted to the crank, and you come off the timing cover the thickness of the balancer...I have this shape piece right there....?

Not a good drawing, but you get the point.....360? 318?

Fuckin #'s are so damn coverded with surface rust i cant read them!
