Hey-
I have been considering doing a 302 NP435 Dana300 combo, but some guy said I could have his 88 Chevy AstroVan w/ a 4.3L w/88,000miles on it and an auto attached to it, but what is attached to it? Is it a 700r4 or something similar? I don't know anything about Chevy's. (he is a friend of my Dad's and will basically give it to me) Whatever the 4.3 is attached to, is it complete garbage?

Is the 4.3L worth anything? I mean, would it be worth putting it in my CJ7? I am thinking it would be lighter than my six, fuel injected and save me a lot of money from buying a 302 and np435, but on the other hand, I realize it will not have any numbers close to the 302, or will it? I don't know... I am currently running 35's, f/r D44's, 258, t-176 and d300.

Thanks for the help.

in 88 the 4.3 produced 165 hp and not sure tourqe 240 i think it will be hooked to a 700r4 and this would be a great combo lot of high end power for mud, dunes the only thing to look for is if it has the smog pump set up on it if it dose you would be happier with one without it easyer for smog, but i would do it move the motor forword 5 inches and have a long rear shaft with the atou and you can move the atou up more for a high cleaarence cross member cool hope that helps storm :trooper:

The transmission could be the 4L60, which is the new name for the 700R4... the case is slightly different... but the internals are the same. Go for it!

Alright,
Sounds decent. I may get it depending on what the availability is for room. Maybe I will jut pullit and junk the van.
I am still not sure whether or not it would be more beneficial to just wait to get a 302 and NP435.

Thanks for the help

OK,
I just found out some bad news, or maybe not. I called the guy to get more details and the reason he is getting rid of it is because he broke a power steering bracket bolt in the block and when he went to drill and tap a larger hole, he drilled too deep in and said water/anti-freeze poured out. He went TOO deep! Can this be just filled with a larger bolt to block flow, or does this have to be welded up? or should I just totally forget it?

Thanks again

plenty of engines have bolts that go right through to the water jacket........Dodge comes to mind
It should not be a problem
If you are worried just use a stainless bolt and seal the threads with RTV
Hey if thats the only problem and you get a free engine....bonus!:D
