View Full Version : Leg room in a 40?
Does any one here have leg room isues with their fj40? I'm
so close to buying this rig, but I just don't fit! The owner has
already modified the seat bracket for a bit more room.
I understand in 1979 the seats moved further back and also reclined.
Will a '79 seat swap into a '76?
Any help is appreciated.

not sure if 79 will swap, I would guess not or not easily. But yes at least my 82(would think 79 is the same) goes back further(plenty far IMOP) than earlier 40's and does recline, not fully however, dang comfy seat....I like it better than the 60 or 62 seat, more side suport I think
SOmeone, maybe Clasic Cruisers makes a kit that moves ealier bucket seats further back.

If you're willing to spend the money, you can get any seat to fit. I'm 6' 1" 300+ and can fit just fine. I know a guy that is 6' 4" that fits. But it's a matter of building a seat frame to mount the seats.
Had my work done by Butch Lewis up in Napa. www.butchbuilt.com

I'm 6'4'' and fit pretty good. I have the RCI seats that are low profile so that helps and the seats mount ot the cage so they are as far back as possible...passenger is mounted closer to the front.
40's are to kewl to let my height keep me from have one...:D

OK... Now we're talkin'!
Think I'll start with the seat extension from classiccruisers. The cruiser also has power steering, so a smaller diameter steering wheel may help. And if
different seats will help... well then I'll look into that too.
Thanks for all the input. Oh, and TxCruzr.. you're right...
40's are way too kewl to let height keep me from getting it.
Thanks.

The custom brackets and prelude seats sound real good.
By "custom bracket", do you mean something you personally
designed and fabricated? Or are they available by custom order
through one of the LC specialty shops?
