Top Mud Challenge VIII is set to take place June 21st, 2003 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, Montgomery City, Missouri. Montgomery City is located ~90 miles due West of St. Louis, Missouri. Exit Interstate 70 at the Hwy 19 exit, then follow 19 ~6 miles North to Montgomery City. The fairgrounds will be on your right shortly after you enter town.

We'll have 11 G.U.M.B.O. sanctioned mud racing classes - 5 "Pit" classes, 6 "Fast Track" classes. 2 classes are for female drivers only. Entry fee is $40 per class with 100% payback. There's also a $3,500 bonus purse to be spread over the top 3 classes (Pro Stock, Modified, & Pro Modified). Rules can be found at www.gumbo4x4.com

Race begins at 5:00 p.m. with tech & registration from noon-3:00 p.m. Race vehicles must be on the grounds for tech & registration (local guys, this means you :p). Race is open to any make or model of 4x4 INCLUDING daily drivers & homemade creations. The bottom class (Real Street) has a 35" tire limit, no engine swaps allowed, no suspension changes, and V8's must pull 19" of vacuum at 1,000 RPM. The top class allows blowers & paddle tires. And everything possible in between is covered.

Spectator admission is $8 for adults & $4 for kids 6-12. 5 & under are free. No need to bring lawn chairs as there is bleacher seating for ~5,500 spectators (we're not expecting that many). Previous events at this location have averaged ~130 competition machines from several states. You should expect to see racers from MO, IL, IN, and MI. Racers from KY, AR, and elsewhere are also possible.

In addition to the race, we will also have a 4x4 display area. Previously, this was a formal "Show N Shine" contest. There'll be no formal contest this year, so having a vehicle of show quality is not necessary to enter the display area. There is no additional charge for displaying your 4x4, though you will need to enter via the competition gate rather than the spectator gate.

Those wishing to set up booths or banners at the event should contact me at: mudslideq78@yahoo.com 4x4 clubs that wish to set up informational booths, RTI ramps, etc, may do so free of charge. But, you must contact me in advance of raceday to let me know what you would like to bring in. Vendors will be charged a reasonable fee for displaying booths or banners.

Need to know more? Just ask. Additional details coming soon at www.gumbo4x4.com

PS since I know some will be curious about this, no this is not a SMORE event. SMORE is no longer in business. This is a joint venture between GUMBO Mud Racing (me) and the Montgomery County Fair Board. I'm now taking on the role of promoter in addition to being the sanctioning body. Lord help us all :D

Hey TEX, why not send us some pics of the event. I think it would be kinda cool to spice things up with something different for a change. ;)

You knew I was gonna bite on the pic thing, didn't ya :p

My photographer got sick last year in the heat after he took dozens of still photos of parked racers  , but he did manage to get some action shots.

I should have mentioned this - 2,000HP machines make a lot of noise. Hearing protection (especially for children) is highly recommended for anyone attending.
