I am trying to figure out how to fabricate x-over steering on a 75 f-250. Now it has the front to back steering like the Chevy's. (kinda) Since this style is not the best for what the truck needs, I would like to put in a newer box and x-over. The truck is leaf-sprung and no suspension lift. Any help or ideas is appreciated.

Dana 44, right? (Snow fighter options have D60)

Check out the POR Jeep section for the High steering or Steering Over axle.

Also K5Colorado site has a nice write up on this in a cheby 1/2 ton.

Your Main problem is the knuckle, you'll see what I mean when you look into this. I don't think you can use the cheby knuckle and it's 1/2 ton spindle hole. You'll most likely need to remove your knuckle, have it machined flat and have tapped holes added. You SHOULD be able to do this with your passengers side knuckle if it's similar to the Drivers knuckle.

Check out: the high steering arms at www.4x4wire.com by John Nutter, this is another way.

Yes it is a 44. I have the knuckle part figured out, as well as the tie rod and drag link (Rockstomper makes some good $h*#). What I am needing the info on is the steering box. The truck does not have power steering, and the direction of the box is wrong. I could use the box from a 79 3/4 ton, and would get power steering, BUT, it is still the push-pull type. Would the box off a 78-79 1/2 ton work, since it is side-side???? Any thoughts??

Thanks:confused:

Chris, whaddaya need? Pitman arm forward or back of the box? If it's forward of the box, use a '78-79 Bronco box; if it's back of the box (like a Toyota with crossover, or a 2WD Chevy) then you're probably best off with a 2WD Chevy truck box.

I think that Bronco box is probably also on a buncha F150's as well (power only, AFAIK, but you need power steering anyway, right? :) )

Only other "gotcha" would be the PS pump... or you can do like a lot of guys do who haven't got the pump yet, but have the box... just hook up both feed lines to each other with tranny line till you find the pump you want.
