: TT YJ kit... install report
squirrelman83 11-22-2001, 03:59 PM Well, after working for about 8 hours last night, my buddy and I got the front M/L YJ's installed and started on the rear. The front went pretty quick and was pretty simple, but we spent a long time on the rear trying to get all the old u-bolts and shackles off. The u-bolts were all rusted on and the shackle had to have the bolts grinded off. We ended up quiting on the back this morning at about 2:00 am; I don't think the neighboors appreciated us grinding all those bolts that early in the morning. Anyway, the front looks like a sweet set-up, and it should function very well. The rear also looks pretty stout, and we are hoping to finish it tonight, if we can get the old u-bolts to go back on. Anyways, I need to get some shocks, brake line and driveshaft extensions/extended yokes and then I should be able to get some pictures up here. Great kit with a very basic install. Other than that, I'll keep you posted. :smokin: ~Steve
squirrelman83 11-23-2001, 12:40 AM Well, the rear is basically done. The entire kit is installed and the only thing left to do is to get the passenger side u-bolts on. We did the driver's side u-bolts twice because we left the shims out. Doh! What a PITA!!! That's why the passenger side didn't get finished... too much time spent on the driver's side, had enough for one night. :D
So, after looking everything over, it looks worlds better. The front axle appears to be moved forward a few inches, and the back looks to be about where it was when we started. Pics to come soon... :smokin: ~Steve
tZUKnami 11-23-2001, 10:19 AM What shims are you talking about? Sounds like its comming along well. Good luck with the rest.

I hope you are joking about using the old U-bolts?:mad3:
squirrelman83 11-23-2001, 11:21 PM I had to use the old u-bolts because the new kit didn't come with any. This is only temporary, though; they are going to get replaced with new ones before it hits the road again. I just needed something right now to get it home (we put the YJ's on in my friend's garage). But, like I said, it's only temporary.
The shims I am talking about were for the pinion angle. They were on it to correct the high driveshaft angle due to the SPOA. We didn't get to put the front ones back on yet cuz we're going to do it when I get new u-bolts and front shaft (and to get a break from working on that thing three days in a row  ).
From the short drive home, I was surprised at how much smoother it rides. Should be a great functioning swap, just need to wait on more parts now. :D ~Steve
tZUKnami 11-23-2001, 11:23 PM Where did you get the shims?
squirrelman83 11-23-2001, 11:27 PM The shims were on the Sammy when I bought it (it was already SPOA), but you should be able to get them at any 4wd shop. You can use ones made for CJ's because they also have 2 inch wide springs. You'll just need to figure out what degree shim you need. ~Steve
tZUKnami 11-23-2001, 11:32 PM Thanks, but I need YJ type. My perches are 2 1/2". Yours are 2 inch still?
squirrelman83 11-24-2001, 12:07 AM My spring perches are still 2 inch, yes, but they are fine for an extra 1/4" on either side. Just get YJ shims if you have 2 1/2" perches. ~Steve
