I have no idea how old my ceiling fan is...it was here when I moved in 4 years ago. I'm sure its a cheap one...everything in this house is. With all of that said my ceiling fan is making a clicking noise and its driving me crazy. If I spray some WD40 on it will it help or screw something up? :roxy:

Check and make sure the mounting to the ceiling is tight. Every time I've experienced that it is due to loose mounts and/or out of balance fan. WD won't hurt the motor.

And also that the screws holding the light fixture are tight. Ditto the WD comment, can't hurt if all else fails.

I'm guessing it shouldn't slightly wobble back and forth, huh?  :roxy:

[homeinspector voice on]Oh, that's bad, really bad! That could mean that the ceiling support joist is rotten and/or infested with termites. I'd estimate that it will cost about $15,000 to fix it by the time you remove all the joists, replace them, then replace the ceiling![/homeinspector voice] :D

No thta would probably be a bad thing. Check all the screws and bolts then if you still hear it and it's out of balance try taping a washer to the top of the blades one by one to see if that helps the balance.

I didn't think they put those type of joists in a trailer? Let alone a ceiling fan????

JK,

Usually if its wobbling around, a blade is out of balance. You can usually balance the fan blades out to get it to settle down, but I'd start with what these guys suggested.
