Choices:
1) Warn 8274
2) Warn HS 9500i
3) Warn XD 9000i
4) any Warn 8000lbs or more.

Realize those are the "priceis no object" rankings!

On any jeep sized vehicle, 6k or under I would say a Warn 8274 or 8274-50 is the hands down best winch, others will do, but for a no holds bared, spool in cable till your done,no worries about re-spooling cable half way through a winch cuz it's piled up and binding on the drum/mount.. Go 8274

Next would be a HS9500I

Do some looking and for sure don't walk into 4wpw and buy without looking. They will match prices but they are WAY high other wise. Example is Clemson 4wd has sales. I have been quoted as low as $780 on the HS9500i with roller fairley from them. 4WPH will qoute you $895 for the same winch. Get the quote from the lowest place, print it and take it to them and they will match. BE SURE you only pay the quote price. Since it would be a out of state over net sale from clemson you don't have to pay state sales tax. They need to adjust the price to include sales tax with a out the door price of $780 (or what ever the current deal is.
Also check Tellico4x4.com they have good deals from time to time.
As for what I would put on a Cruiser. either 8274 or the 9500i. Big reason is those are both fast winches. 8274 is pretty expensive winch but a darn good one.

For soemthing like a FJ55, I'd go with the Warn 10k or 12k. For a FJ40 or Jeep, I'm comfortable with the 9k, but for a big heavy wagon like a FJ55 - go bigger.

Just my $0.02

My FJ55 weighs 5700lbs empty, and I've got an old Warn 8274 on it. The warn is plenty winch for my pig.

The 8274 is really durable, doesn't get as hot as the lay-down models, and has plenty of pull.

I run a Warn HS 9500i. A week or so ago, I pulled my truck (4200-4400 lbs) and a 4runner (est 4500 lbs) that I was strapping up a hill. It worked just fine.
