I generally don't post here since I am a chevy owner myself but I have a question about new dodges. I know older dodges used the chrysler corporate axles and a lot of Dana/spicer axles. My question is about the new axles that dodge is using in their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. They are made by American Axle and I know nothing about the company. They look beefy and strong from the outside. Are they strong? Do they have a proven track record, or are they a newish company? Are aftermarket parts available, i.e. Lockers, gears, u-joints? Let me know if any of you have info on this. Thanks.

AAM used to be the axle division of GM, and was spun off as a separate company some years ago. They made ALL the GM-corporate axles including the various 10, 12 and 14-bolts, as well as the IFS differentials for the '92-up pickups after separating from GM. Have you noticed how much the new HD Dodge rear axles resemble the old GM 14-bolt full-floater? There's a reason for that. There's also a reason that the new front axles look so much like GM's old 14-bolt semifloater. Don't know what aftermarket parts are available for these yet, but I'm sure that they'll be coming along soon enough.

yeah the new rear axles are very simialr to the 10.5" and 11.5" GM 14 bolts.

The front is very similar to the semi-floater 14 bolt 9.5" and 9.25" IFS center section.

Not sure of aftermarket so far, however if carriers are the same that opens everything from arbs, to detroits and 5.13s.....

The rear axles are very similar with the exeption that they do not have the bolt in third pinion bearings like the Gm 14 bolt ff.

The dodge front axle is a 9.25in 14bolt the same as the 9.25 in. ifs front in the chevrolet, so yes, you can get gears and an arb for it. Also, it uses 1.4 33 spline axle shafts like the gm 14sf rears and ujoints comparable to the 1480 d60 size, however they use a unit bearing hub:rolleyes:
