What do you guys think? I am considering getting a 94-01 Dodge 1500 4x4 as a new tow rig. Is this a good choice, or should I stick with the Chevy or Ford?

I will be up in a week and a half. If you want to take my truck for a spin, come down.

I have used my dad's 96 1500 dodge 360 auto extended cab 4x4 for the past year towing my toyota. The truck and trailer weigh about 4800lbs. So far I have done Hollister 3 times, the Hammers 3 times and the 'Con once. I keep it out of OD and it is doing good so far. Just don't expect much on those hills. Good luck, Bryan.

4800 for truck and trailer? MAn, that is just a wee bit light. Last time I had my truck on a scale, it was 5500 lbs, unloaded, with driver, tool box, and a full tank of gas. I have a reg cab 4x4 too.

If you tow on a regular basis, I'd look into a 3/4 ton instead. The 360 is a bit weak, but it will get it done. An injected 351W or TBI 350 will leave the "magnum" in the dust, and neither of those are gonna win many races. Still, the 360 will get you where you need to go.
