why so wide a rim?

i run 16 PSI on the street. i've gone down to 13 PSI on the trail, no beadlocks for me.

16.5 rims do NOT have a safety bead built into the rim. On other sizes you will notice a slight indentation that helps keep the tire on the rim-down to around 10-12lbs and some people get by without beadlocks with even lower, whereas you will need to keep your tire pressure MUCH higher to not slip off the bead without that safety bead.

If you got such a killer deal, why don't you sell them for a profit and buy yourself a product that you will be happier with?

Yep, you're relying on air pressure to keep a 16.5 on the rim.
