I want to go with either a terra 60 r or a terra 50 r. is it worth it to go with the 50 or is the 60 good enough? Is the weight saved in the 50 worth the $$$$?:smokin:

are you aware of what teh terra 50 is?

it's a 44 center section with 60 outers, the only reason terra even built these to start with was so they had an axle option for 01 TJ's because Jeep changed the exhaust manifold and teh 60 housing would hit it....

the 50 is WEAKER than the 60, so if you want a 44 with 60 joint's go for it, otherwise step up to the 60, the price isn't that much more....

First I'm planning on using it for the front. I've pretty much decided that the 50 is the way to go since the whole reason for it's design was to increase clearances under the engine.
Further its not just a 44 center with 60 outers. The design incorporates the 44 guts into a stronger housing. This housing is set at an angle which is in line with the transfer (angles up).
Also the 44 doesn't have a problem with the guts. It's the outers that are weak and snap most of the time.
I have the terra 60 r with an ARB and discs for the rear already.

ok so your still going to run a 44 ring and pinion? a 44 locker? and 30 splines... yes i am 100% aware it's a different housing, i used to work in an axle shop...

but your poll at the top reads so that it sounds as the 50 is strong, it's not, have you read any of teh discussions in teh toy section with the 60 hybrid's the neckdown in the shafts becomes your weak link... but hey it's your money GO FOR IT!

Go with the 60 for the front... Manifold clearance, limit up travel or lift the jeep some more. I got the tera 60 in the back now and will put one in the front or dynacrap maybe? Fawk the 44 guts!

A 50 is not just a 44 with 60 outers. A 50 has a 9" ring gear and a stronger case but they only have 30 spline axles as of right now but that will change in time I would bet. Lockers are few but they do make ring and pinions up to 4.88 now.
