I'm looking into going to EFI on my '80 SII. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Comander 950 system from Holley. The computer for this system will also control the timing. From the Holley website:
Timing control capability can also be achieved through use of:
..........GM HEI module
..........Ford TFI module
..........Magnetic crank trigger
..........Hall Effect crank trigger
..........Aftermarket distributor
What distributors are available or can be made to work with the IH engines that use one of the above methods. I'm assuming the crank triggers are probably not going to work due to the lack of a trigger on the harmonic balancer. Anybody else modify something to use the HEI or TFI modules on their ignition?

I run a GM HEI Dist. on my 345. I had it machined to fit by a old guy in Pueblo Colorado. I have never had any problems with it ( its been on for about 5 years), When i installed it i noticed quicker starts, better miliage, and performance. I have a 70,000 volt coil, MSD control module and the plug cap is set at .o60. E-mail me if you want his number, i will try to find it.

To echo Terra-izer,
I run GM HEI in my 1974 T-all w/ 392. It is great, and the T-all will get 14-16 on the highway ~ wish Scouts did the same!

There are some differences in the housings/shaft length between Chevy, Olds, Caddy, etc. Do you know what donor vehicle gave up its unit for your T-all? What did you do to yours to get it to fit? Did you have any clearance issues with the waterneck? Better yet, do you have any pictures of it you can send me? Pics of it mounted in the truck would be cool but pics of it out of the truck would be kick ass (although I don't really expect you to pull it just to snap some pics).

Snoopy bought his Travelall with his HEI, and it was built by the same guy in Pueblo as mine. They both use mid 70's chevy car/truck housings. And Snoopy, my Terra gets 16mpg with my HEI, 36's, 4.56's, and my Diesel has been getting 23Mpg.

Just a word of warning, The Comander 950 setup is a PITA to tune. Once you get it right it's damn nice but plan on about 5 times longer then you were planning to get it tuned.

Cool..... that answers one question. Chevy housing... although I pulled one from a later Chevy yesterday as I will be needing one with computer controlled module and no vacuum advance unit. Thanks....

Thanks for the warning....even with the tuning PITA, I think the end result is going to be worth the effort. :rasta:
