Ok let me see if I can explain this, I'm at the salvage yard the other day talking to one of the yard guys about 4 wheelin and he says coame look at this van. So we get there it is a late 70's chevy van converted to 4wd and then I look at the front axle, but it is some kinda independent front end. Has upper and lower control arms with a diff. inside the arms. Then I took a look at the t-case and it has 2 front drive shafts coming out (one to ea side). It looked really wild just wondering if any of you have seen one or can someone tell me what kinda case and diffs that thing has.

I've seen them used on chevy ambulances.
Don't know what they are though

It's called a V drive. Completely useless for off-roaders, but they used to come on some 4wd cube vans and other cab chassis arrangements.

I'm not sure about the completely useless part, other than the thirds looked kinda small. Why couldn't you build like a portal w/ the thirds mounted on the end of the axle center clearance would be outragious. Of course you would then have to have 2 long slip driveshaft, but I'm sure that wouldn't be a prob. for Jesse. I'm just not sure on the strenght issue.

You're gonna have to draw me a picture of that. I can't figure out how you turn a diff into a portal? If you could, why couldn't you use a centersection out of any normal front axle?
