plain 'ol FSJ wagoneer/cherokee is 60.5" The '76 3/4ton J-truck axle I have is about 66"-67". I think the cherokee chief (wide trac) axles are somewhere in the 64" range.

i have used 3 set of wagoneer axles in build ups and every one has had a width of 61" in the front and 59" in the rear give or take a half inch. i have had a rear offset cherokee widetack rear and it was 62 to 62.5" wide. as for the fronts of cherokees and jtrucksa i'm not sure. i was under the impression that j-trucks and wide cherokees were the same but i could be wrong.

I put a J 10 rear in my Cherokee F/S. I had to move the spring mounts and the shock mounts too I think. I remember it being 3 1/ 2" wider than the Cherokee axle. It squared up the rig nicely, and while it may not seem like much I could feel the difference in stability. It may not feel as obvious on a lower rig but mine had 17" and 40s.

The J20 axles are a bit wider than J10 when you compare wms to wms. This is because of heavier brakes, bearings, etc.. The axle housing width is the same on both and on wide trac Cherokees, but the outer stuff makes the J20 wider.

Right, 8-lug outers add about 2" of overall width compared to 6-lug outers.
