never been in here before but I"m looking at a 78 f250 for a crawler hauler. just wondering what your thoughts are on it. it is a 78 f250 400m, np435, np205 t case. runs great, a littl rust but a good body. probably get it for $1000. what do you think, good deal?? any issues w/ these I don't know about. as far as I know those older fords are awesome. I'm probably going to use it to haul my toy to competitions and light wheelin. thanks

Thats a great deal. I'm not a big fan of the "m" engines but it should be a great hauler. No issues specific to that year/model. Take it!

Would be a heckuva score if it had a HP60 up front :D

Carry an extra ignition module with you. I actually had a spare bolted to the fender apron next to the stock one so i could easily switch them over. They have a tendancy to die at bad times.
Other than that ... it should be a great truck ... I've had two '78's and loved them both.

:D :D
I've been saying this for years!!! I always actually immediatly swap to MSD, and leave the stock stuff hanging in case the MSD fails.. (never did have one go though.. COUNTLESS duracrap boxes though:rolleyes: )

I don't know, I think durasparks gotten an undeserved bad rap. Hell, I've had my share of problems with msd. 'Bout the only electric ignition I've ever known to be fairly bulletproof is the HEI. That said, I used to carry a spare duraspark module too, but only cuz they were cheap insurance ;)
Awesome trucks, I had a 73 highboy with the 390 and it was a monster. The 400 block isn't so red hot but it will do til' you can get ahold of a 390/460.:flipoff2:

The 400 is a dog. Drop a 460 in and it would be killer.

Great truck. I tow with a 78 f250 Camper Special
The 400 (note - no M) is not a dog - just choked from the factory. Read about how to wake it up in the links from the last panel in this story:

My 460 gets 3-4mpg better with twice the power that my 400 had. Both in 77 pickups.

Our shop truck gets 8 mpg loaded heavy. 9.5 when it's empty.
