As we all know, when a semi passes you, you flash yer lights on/off to let them know that it's clear to merge back into the lane....they in turn give you a friendly flash of the trailer lights in appreciation.
Has anyone tweaked their trailer running lights for the same effect? I considered setting up three small center/marker lights in the middle of the trailer tail with a momentary switch.... Thought it might be a good "bored Saturday afternoon" project one of these days to set that up....
...or should I just focus on shit that matters? :flipoff2:
I've done it. I used a relay wired so it's normally closed in the park lamp circuit. A momentary switch on the dash triggers the relay to open and cut the power to the park lamps. The headlamps stay on and so do the dash lights. You need to use a relay that's capable of 15 amps on contacts.
It was a "bored Saturday afternoon in the dead of winter" project.

Yup.
Some people would also use a continous duty solenoid wired through the marker lights, and put the trigger wire on a toggle.
I usually just click my signal back to left, then right, then left, then off.

was thinking about this today... just use a SPDT relay inline with the tail-light circuit, and wire the relay:
30 - wire from the truck
87A- wire to the trailer
85 - thin (18-22 ga) 12v+ to a momentary switch in your cab
86 - ground
This way, the relay is normally not energized, and current flows through. when you tap your marker light switch, it interrrupts the power... less wear and tear on the relay, and it's fail-on.
