I need some pointers! How hard is it to put a 87' Chevy 1ton 4x4 drivetrain under a 83' Chevy 1ton 2x4 frame. I trying to put a solid truck together for this motor.

thanks

It would be alot simpler, and cheaper to buy a 4X4 truck and swap out the motor. Put the motor from the 4WD, into the 2WD. Sell the 2WD!
You can convert a 2WD into a 4WD, but with the frame mods, and the cost of aquiring all the parts you need to do it, you will be much better off going with the above option!:skull:

easy
hit the wreckers and get a 4x4 front cross member and spring mounting brackets

the crossmembers are riveted in, the only frame mod is drilling shackle holes, perfect time to correct your shackle angle
the front most crossmember is different on the 4wdr if you wish to retain the sway bar

Is the body on the 4x4 rusted out? And you are trying to use the good body on the 4x2? Swap bodies?

Unless it's changed since the 77 2wd I just stripped for parts for my 70 Burb you will have to get the 4x4 crossmember or better yet build your own with the clearence to put the cross over steering on. You will need the front spring hangers that oce you cut the rivits you can bolt them on and you will need the rear shackle piviots out of the 4x4 to install into the 4x2. Holes should already be there. GM pretty well used the same frame rails on all trucks. Just put the cross members and hangers on needed for what the truck would be.
