If you have the torque tube and the driveshaft, it is easy to make.
If not, it is a kick in the ass.
Right now it is hard to get the torque tube and the driveshaft.

Exaxt sells a billet kit that doesn't need the old torque tubes...you can check them out;)

I think Exaxt also need the core parts. Itīs totally different and more expencive than a 404 conversion.
@ Gunracer
If you need the parts, i can try to find some core parts.

Wolfgang, you're correct. We use the 406 driveshaft and torque tube for that pinion conversion, too. And they are hard to find but may have some kicking around too.
Our billet kit is available for the 404 series axles.

The problem is, most axle are sold without toque tube and driveshaft. Not a big deal on the 404īs but a big shit on the 406 and even worse on the U1300.
You have to have a core to machine a copy. (expencive)
Itīs possible to buy the end of the driveshafts with the splines for a U 1300 to make the flange, but right now i had a hard time to find the shaft ends for the 406.
If you buy 406 or U 1300 axles, make sure they come with the torque tube and driveshaft.
