View Full Version : over wheel tie downs

Currently I tie my Jeep down on my trailer by the rear axle and through the front knuckles with ratchet straps (pretty common setup).

I was thinking of doing some mods to my trailer for more storage space and am considering putting loops on either side of the front tires (in front of the tire and in back of the tire) allowing a strap to run over the tire.

Anyone do this? Any pros and cons? Any pictures?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

If you do decide to do this I'd suggest the same type of straps
that are found on tow dollys. They widen out over the top of the
tire and wrap around the sides.

Yup, that be what I'm talking about. It's too easy for a regular
strap to slip off the tire.

I once saw a Toyota show truck, still on the narrow Toy axles, with about 25" of lift & 44" TSL's strapped like this:

Strap connected to rear of trailer, ran up over the top of the rear TSL then over the front TSL, then connected to the front of the trailer. One strap per side.
