Im purchasing a set of 36x12.50x15 Super Swamper SX's and I want to mount them on 15x8" Mickey Thompson Classic II rims. I was under the impression that it was OK to mount a 12.50" tire on an 8" rim, and it was actually better to run 8's versus 10's becuase youre less likely to pop a bead at low pressure, and it is much easier on your drivetrain (especially with toy birfields). When I called to get a price today, the sales rep at National Tire questioned my mounting on 8 inch rims but I persisted. Can anyone confirm my understanding on this topic? So I can rest easy and finalize my tire/wheel order? Thanks

Your impressions are correct, 8's are fine with that size. Places get kind of funny if you want them on wheels that aren't in the recommended wheel size chart. It's probably a liability thing. They might give you a line that they won't honor the tire warranty because they're mounting on a non-recommended size..I say B.S. !!

I've been running my 15.50 SX's on 8's for a few years now, without any ill effects. Definatley a liability issue on National's part. 12.50's will be fine, do it and don't look back.

I used to run 12.50 wide tires on a 10" rim,,nothing but problems with beads coming off. I had to keep um at or above 18 psi to keep the bead on the rim.. I now run 8" wheels.... no problems,, ok, less problems.....Now where'd that bead lock page go...........................

i run 12.5s on 10 in. rims and that is just worked for me. i like the way they fit and have never lost a bead on either of my rigs. the zuk has 33x12.5 pro comps on old aluminun rims and i run it at 4 psi on the trail. the land cruiser has 38x12.5 on some old ansens and i run them between 8 and 10 psi. i know most are in favor of 8 in. rims for 12.5s but i am not one of the followers. if you run it on the street much i would go to the tens for sure just to get even tire wear. if its a trail only rig it really doesn't matter. o yea take alook at the rims you are getting and make sure they have a good safty bead rolled into them. you can get rims from diamond racing that have a extra deep safty bead rolled into them. and any off set you want pretty cheap. mike

I run 35 x 12.50 MTRs on Champion Beadlock 15 x 10. I typically run at 7.5 psi. Go beadlocks, "... do it and don't look back."

I want to runt the 37 x 12.50 MTRs, but they're too damn expensive right now.
