Would it be possible to modify my factory SII 727 shifter to use with a 4 speed auto (4l80e)? Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm not able to look at my factory shifter right now.

It's going to only have six detents and your going to need seven.
Most shift linkages use a standard old Morse control style cable, so the total travel distance between park and first will be the same.

Thanks, I'll take that bastard apart and see if I can add another detent.

The gm cable comes from the opposite direction as the 727

So I would need a really long cable. Is there an easy cheap solution to this? I don't want to pay 2 bills for an aftermarket shifter.
ChiScouter: By the way you made my day with that info about the flexplate.

You might want to try a shifter from a camero/firebird.

Yeah, good idea. 700r4 shifter should work.
