: BW 4401 Problems

In my 96 K3500, I have a Borg Warner 4401. I got rearended on the 2nd of May where the car hit me in the right rear tire, forcing the axle forward. I know the slip yoke at the mid carrier bearing bottomed out because the plug in the end of the slip yoke was popped out and missing. And I know it was there before because the shaft was just built 8 days before:mad:

Anyway, I finally got the new Alcan rears in and fixed all the other stuff and went to test drive and noticed my front shaft was turning. I crawled under and sure enough the transfer case is stuck in 4hi. The shifter handle can be moved between 2hi and N but will not go into 4hi or 4lo.

I pulled the linkage off and still could not get the lever on the case to move into anything other than 2hi or N. But, the transfer case in 4hi no matter where the shifter is.

There is no drivability issues or noise when driving with the shifter in 2hi. But if I put the case in the N position, and put the truck in any gear including Park, it grinds. Coming out of N into 2hi with engine running it jerks the truck and bangs loudly then goes into the 2hi position.

So my question is, can the driveshaft being forced into the fixed yoke of the transfer case cause this damage? I'm trying to get insurance to replace it and need proof... Would also like some info on what it could possibly be since I need to get this fixed in less than 2.5 weeks...

Sorry for the novel but just wanted to get all info presented. Really sucks though because I worked for 3 weeks straight getting every little thing done on the truck for Blazer Fest and only to have this kill me dead in my tracks:mad:

An exploded view of the case can be viewed HERE (http://www.industrialoffroad.com/gallery/albums/album05/bw4401.jpg)

I'm assuming that one of the shift forks could have been broken off...
