: HELP - Rockkrawler tri-link problems
DanB98TJ 06-07-2003, 01:23 PM StealthTJ and I are trying to install his RK tri-link (1998 TJ, D44), but the holes in the rear bracket aren't lining up. Anyone have the RK tri-link they can take a pic of and make sure we have the right one? We've tried the bracket in both possible mounting positions but it's nowhere close.
Thanks....
MilTroy 06-07-2003, 01:29 PM you need to attach pictures:rolleyes:
I think the problem you have is that it came from Rockkrawler.
I have yet to hear anything good about their products.
Other than his buddies who swear that the parts are shiztnitz!
Thanks for the 1st hand experince there RAZ!
Now tell us what you heard.
My RK tri-link has worked flawless as of to date.
Shit happens here & there, most likely they
sent ya a wrong part, maybe call them 1st?
Or check with RAZ :flipoff2:

Calling them would be fine - if they were open weekends and the Jeep wasn't in pieces.....:flipoff2:
It's together now - we had to drill new mounting holes because the original ones were way off. Heck, the holes were closer to being correct with the bracket in the wrong position than the way it should have been.
Needless to say, I'm not impressed with Rock Krawler....and that's from personal experience.;)
MilTroy 06-08-2003, 11:44 AM Maybe you’re in the wrong position, you should take pictures of before and after so someone that knows what there doing can make a collaborated call if the kit is junk before you bash them all over the place. You may have put it on backwards or they may have drilled their holes backwards no one will know. At least you’re doing it yourself instead of paying a shop to do bolt on.
Just for the record, as soon as one of my
RK parts fail or I break,
I'll be sure to fly right in here and bitch!
As of now nothing to bitch about :flipoff2:

Your so right !
Regardless, one day it will all come to an end.
Regardless of what it is :flipoff2:
BTW I'm not running their complete kit.
My Jeep is some what of a home made whore :D

There are only two possible ways the bracket can go, and the holes were nowhere close either way. I took some pics but they didn't turn out well enough to see any detail.
The bracket is in the right position now but we had to drill new holes to get it in place - guess I know what I'm doing enough to fix their mistake, huh?:flipoff2: Did RK send the wrong bracket or did they just screw up when they drilled it? I don't know, and I could really care less - it's on and the Jeep is back on the road. It would just be nice if people paid attention and had some quality control....seems things are getting worse in both areas with many different companies, not just RK.
Oh, and I didn't bash them all over the place - just here.
:D
jeep94xj 06-08-2003, 07:22 PM I'll bash them! RK SUCKS!!!! And I do speak from personal experience! :flipoff2:
BatteredTJ 06-09-2003, 09:35 AM I've got pictures of some of my breakage. I began replacing everything with my own stuff after the first breakage. I'd post them if I could. I can send pictures if someone wants to post them. Broken trackbar, front upper link, front upper bracket ripping apart the spring bucket that it welds to, front long control arm, one rear shock, bushings in all shocks, both front shocks when the front upper arm broke, rear upper link that wouldn't stay tight. I have since built a four link in the rear when I went to my 9", I built new brackets in the front and beefed up the control arms, I also changed out the shocks.
Bushwhacker 06-10-2003, 11:48 AM I have their shocks and coils and they SUCK!!!
JohnnyJ 06-10-2003, 01:31 PM Send them to johnnyj@msg4x4club.com and I'll post them up.

Damnnnn, what kind of response from RK? thats some shitty stuff, must be made for cruisin, Looked like the stuff was built good, pictures, but undoubly not. I was never to crazy about one mount on the rear top, no back up if it brakes, like a four link.
cybersniper 06-10-2003, 06:59 PM HOW GLAD I AM that I joined Pirates JUST before starting my Jeep rockcrawler proyect....
NOW I have a nice XCL being installed ( it may not be perfect but who is ?) and I did not buy the RK kit.....
I was nearly decided to...so... I was lucky to join Pirates...
That is what this is all about SHARING knowledge and EXPERIENCES.
From experience I can tell you Black Diamond RULES !!!!! .

Dude, that is exactly what my first breakage looked like although I don't have pictures of that actual breakage. Just me fixing it. I'm sending the pictures to JohnnyJ.

Fred did call them on Monday about the problem, and they agreed that the bracket was drilled incorrectly.
On Saturday (while we were still fighting with this mess), someone on JU posted a pic of their bracket installed (Thread on JU (http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=399495)) - the bolt through the joint was at a pretty severe angle, but that was obviously the only way that guy's bracket would mount based on the way the holes were drilled. After adjusting the mounting holes on Fred's part to mount the bracket in the same position, we installed the bracket. The bolt through the cartridge joint was at too much of an angle and the joint was binding. So, we pulled the bracket back off, flipped it over, and drilled holes for that position - the bolt is in a much better position and has ample travel throughout the suspension cycle. Fred asked RK about that, too, and was told that the way we mounted it was better. So, why do they still consider the other way as right???? Not a good sign, IMHO.
I do like the way the tri-link is made and think it will work well, but RK really needs to work on their quality control and customer service issues.
flexj 06-11-2003, 06:58 PM I was a phone call away from buying RK....went with Rusty's instead....how does the saying go....out of the pan, into the fire.
Let the Rusty's bashing begin!!!

STICK-ROY 06-13-2003, 12:46 PM Rock krawler is the worst aftermarket company I have ever bought from. They ship there items late, or incomplete. The sales staf and engineers are not very helpfull over the phone or in person. Their product and quality of their design is right up there with harbor freight.
psychobilly 04-01-2004, 06:03 PM dont relate RK to harbor freight, you may unfairly tarnish their reputation....harbor freights repretation that is. :flipoff2:
