Didnt have time to do a search gotta go to work, so if thats your response, dont I will do a search latter.
Would Chrome Moly T4130 steel, .14 inch wall 1.9 inch diameter be good for shock hoops and or roll bar?? I now jack about steel and whats needed (thickness and grade wise) What would yall recommend for roll bar, and shock hoop tubing?? I was thinking of going with Chrome moly just for the strength to weight ratio.
Also can chrome moly be welded to regular steel?? Say my Jeep frame, or pieces of stock roll bar?
Is a Jeep YJ's stock roll bar tubing acceptable or should i replace it when I do the full cage. (I plan on extending the full cage down to the frame)
Thanks alot..

No. For shock hoops - too big and difficult to bend. For the cage - good choice, but only if you weld and stress releive / heat treat it properly afterwards - otherwise, waste of money, and liklely overkill

For either 1029 DOM will do nicely. Say 1.75" for the cage, and maybe 1.25 or 1.5 for the shock hoops.

It CAN, but in doing so you lose the strength benefit, and therefore have just wasted monry. No point.

I recommend replacing it all with a properly designed cage.

you admit you don't know jack about steel and don't have time to do the research but some how you feel you are capable of building a life saving item like a roll cage ? i am thinking your thought process needs to be examined.
1. spend lots of time educating your self on proper materials.
2. spend even more time learning proper design
3. practice alot on non critical items
4. if you can't find one then buy one........... a clue

My Cage is built from 2" .120 wall DOM, the only way to fly IMO.. My shock hoops are built from 1.5" .188 wall DOM, over kill but its fun!
BTW, don't try and throw a halfass cage together, spend sometime learning before you start !!!

Ok Ok Camo, I plan on getting a couple books on tube frame building/ roll bars (know of any good uns??)....... So I plan on researching it and learning more about it. A buddy of mine has a friend that builds alotta tube frame race cars, and im gonna try and hook up with him soon. The reason i said I didnt have time to do a search is because I had to go right then and have some stuff to do around the house before I go to work tonight so its not that I dont have time I just didnt today. The reason for the post is that I found some of the forementioned tubing for sale and was wondering if it would be good. So :flipoff2: !! I forgot I was supposed to be born with knowledge of every facit of car/truck/4x4 building !
Thanks for the info guys. :D
