Who's running a 9 inch high pinion(Currie 8.8 inch) in the rear? If you are what size tires do you have and have you had any problems with the gears. Also has anyone heard any more info about Sunray Engineering's true 9 inch hi-pin set up?
i have a full width high pinion 9 in my yj with 37 ssrs and have not had a problem yet.Gary
I've had the Currie hi-pin for a few years now, the first set of gears did not last very long. (Currie blames the spool) I did my own set up on the first set and this may be the problem, but this was the only set of gears I've ever had go away on me and I've done probly 100 sets. the second set is doing fine (I paid Currie to do these) Would I buy it again? Same rig, same circumstances, Yes. Next rig D60.

I was bugging Tom at Sunray about that RC 9" they are trying to develop last week.
I want one in the rea rof my rig since the damn D60 drags on EVERYTHING!
THey are still undecided as to whether there is enough demand out there to sink the $$ into this project.
THey are going to have to buy at least 200 sets of EACH gear ration to justify doing this.
THat is a ton of coin, meaning if they have 6 ratios available, then they would have to sell 1200 axles to get rid of their intitial inventory.
THey are still trying to decide....

I've had it in the rear (running 33 TSLs) for a couple years. Started ARB, got tired of ARB "issues," went Detroit (Jeep became a 95% trail only at that time anyway, so it made sense to me). No gear problems.
Figure if it ever really breaks bad I'll go for a standard 9 inch drop out and live with the low pinion or see if Sunray has theirs available in just the drop out.
The axle housing itself is beefy as hell, has Explorer disks on it, and some custom work I did on it, so I don't want to get rid of it.

What's the lowest gear set available for the RC 8.8"?

I have 4.56, I think 4.88 is available.
