I was out playing submarine today ;) and I ended up with my passenger's side front tire in a water filled hole about 48"-50" deep. Luckily no water in the intake but lots of water in the cab. After getting out of the hole my idle was very high. Nothing will stop it from idling too fast except to unplug the MAS. The MAS did not get wet. Could I have damaged my computer by getting it wet? I sorta remember hearing that the computer is behind the passenger's side kick panel. Tomorrow I am going to take the computer out and see if I can dry it off. Any ideas?

First, what is a MAS??? You may have a MAF (mass air flow), or a MAP (manifold absolute pressure), both can cause serious driveability problems. If your computer got wet and shorted, you probably wouldn't run, let alone idle fast. Check for other basics, and make sure that everything is dry!!! All the mud and water might have knocked loose a vaccum line or something....... I dunno.

Check your TPS I did the exact same thing in my 88 F-150 and the TPS came loose. It idled so high it turned the headers cherry red. Not good

The IAC (idle air control) will also cause this, and this piece of equipment doesn't like any sort of dirt, water etc. it's located just by the throttle body and is cylindrical in shape with two bolts retaining it. Try unplugging it to see what happens. If the idle returns to somewhat normal replace it. You could also try tapping on it lightly with a hammer to see if you can loosen it up. BUT REMEMBER LIGHTLY. too hard and it'll crack wide open.

Don't try to act like a smartass, when your abbreiviations are wrong. If you had your stuff straight, then I wouldn't have asked. Do yourself a favor... go get yourself a book, read it, and know what you are talking about before you open your mouth and try to act smart.............
Sorry that I was right, and you thought you were...:flipoff2:

When my MAF sensor was replaced at the dealership the mechanic referred to it as a MAS so I think either one is acceptable...

Don't ever replace a Ford IAC motor! If you do, send them to me :D
I've cleaned hundreds, even on cars that won't idle at all. Never had to replace one, although other shops do it all the time. Soak 'em in a little carb cleaner and run a brush down in each hole. Takes 5 minutes.
For the fast idle, check your bulkhead and ECM connector for moisture, it can cause a fast idle.
MAS and MAF are interchangable. Ford uses MAF, but if you can't figure out what MAS means you struggle. :flipoff2:

That could be it. The idle is back to normal now. I still might shoot some contact cleaner on the connectors just to make sure they don't corrode.

Exactly my point.
