This was in Gen 4x4 and Chit Chat, but since it's a run, I figured I'd put it up here.

Here's the press release:

OPERATION DESERT FUN 2003
October 17-19
Ocotillo Wells SVRA

San Diego, CA – The California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs, Inc. is pleased to announce Operation Desert Fun, a desert adventure to benefit the Cal-Diego Paralyzed Veterans Association and Cal 4 Wheel. Like the charity event previously held every February, Operation Desert Fun will be held at the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, Ocotillo Wells, CA (35 miles east of Julian) and will include runs for all SUV’s, 4x4’s, Buggies, Baja’s, Motorcycles and ATV’s (sorry, no ATC’s).

Come out Friday night to try your luck on the Moonlight Poker Run. All vehicles are welcome to try for the best poker hand and vote on their favorite poker stop. Or use your GPS to guide you to a series of clues that lead you back to camp. Several other games are in the works, so stay tuned!

On Saturday, you will have many runs to choose from ranging from SUV novice to body-damage-likely! Duel Sport motorcycles can take a journey while another run takes all vehicle types on a run with games and lots of fun. No matter what toy you bring, we have a run for you! Then Saturday night, we will hold not only a raffle for the adults, but one for the kids too!

All proceeds from both raffles go directly to the Cal-Diego PVA.
Registration for multi-seat vehicles is $40 (if pre-registered by October 1st), single seat vehicles $20, single-seat vehicles for kids 17 and under (accompanied by a parent or legal guardian) $5, and the Duel Sport Motorcycle Run $35. Cal 4 Wheel will be receiving the proceeds from registration to cover the cost of the event, and to help in the fight to keep public land open and accessible to all of us.

For the Vendors interested in participating:

Every February in the desert of Ocotillo Wells, off roaders from all over the state would come to participate in a fundraiser for a local charity. That event was canceled this year, and left us with a need to replace it. The California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs, Inc. met with the Cal-Diego Paralyzed Veterans Association, and Operation Desert Fun was born!

The Cal-Diego Paralyzed Veterans Association serves U.S. military veterans primarily in and around San Diego, CA. Cal-Diego PVA's programs focus on ensuring quality of life for these men and women who have served their country so bravely. Through sports and recreation, advocacy, and education, Cal-Diego PVA makes sure these veterans return to being active members of society. Through support and encouragement, Cal-Diego PVA members have gone on to compete in the Paralympic Games, get their college degrees, and discover hidden artistic talents. They learn to focus on their abilities instead of their disabilities. Cal-Diego PVA does not receive any government funding but operates entirely on fundraisers and donations.

On October 10-12, we invite all buggies, ATV’s, dirt bikes and 4x4’s to come out and participate in runs, games and a raffle for the kids as well as the adults. We are adding a few SUV runs to introduce new 4x4 owners to our beautiful desert. We would also like to encourage all businesses to set up a booth, to share your products and information with our anticipated crowd of at least 400 registrants (not to mention their friends and companions)! We are also seeking donations for both the kids’ and adults’ raffles in the form of money or product (does not have to be 4x4 or desert-related).

We will not be charging vendors who wish to come out to join us; rather, we offer the following:

· $200 in cash or product donated to the raffle gets you a booth and your logo in the program.
· $350 in cash or donated product gets you the above AND a business-card-sized ad in the program.
· $500 gets you all of the above but with a ¼ page ad and 1 of your banners hung up.
· $750 gets you the above but with a ½ page ad and 2 banners strategically placed.
· $1,000 gets you a full-page ad and 4 banners with one of them on the stage.

The best part is that all the proceeds from the raffles will go to the Cal-Diego PVA, and donations are tax-deductible.
Cal 4 Wheel will be receiving the registration dollars to cover event costs, and to help in the continuing fight to keep our public lands open to all of us.

Currently the only point of contact I have is Ang Cook (angcook@pacbell.net). From the press release, I gather that there will be a sign up from the Cal4Wheel (www.cal4wheel.com) site.

If you would like a electronic copy of the press release or the vendor letter, email or PM me and I'll send it out.

That's for not saying hi. Of course, I'm almost as guilty, but I didn't know you were going to be there.

From Angela,

Greetings all! I didn’t want another minute to pass before I thanked you all again for all your hard work and support for Operation Desert Fun.

I did not thank everyone I needed to while on stage, so if I didn’t mention you, I am truly sorry. It is not because you didn’t deserve it, but because I am a bit senile!

We made a lot of mistakes, and we took notes. We made up feedback forms, but they didn’t get distributed, so I have attached it to this e-mail in the hopes that you would fill them out and return them. If you want to write the answers on an e-mail and send them back to me, that would be fine. If you want to remain anonymous, drop them in the mail to:

Angela Cook

P.O. Box 2408

Valley Center, CA 92082

We are looking to fill a few chair positions for next year, so if you want to participate in any fashion, please let us know. We will also be holding a post-party after the dust settles, so I will let you know about that.

We are ordering more shirts as we sold out on-site, so if you want a shirt or dash plaque, please let me know how many and what size (shirt!).

Once again, THANK YOU for your support and help. We will get the numbers together as soon as we can, but I can tell you that we did exceptionally well, even if it hadn’t been the first year for the event!!!

Chat soon,

Angela Cook

P.S. Sorry I did not blind copy everyone, but I wanted to make sure everyone got thanked, so if you see a name missing from this e-mail, please forward it on!

P.S.S. IF you can’t open the document, e-me back and I will copy/paste it to an e-mail.

Of course I was there. I've been pimping this for three or four months. :D I can't remember the name of the run. It's the one where the Sammi rolled in the morning. It was the moderate run that ended up in the badlands in the afternoon.
