I did some searching around, and OS seemed to be the only person to sort of answer this question in any detail:

Will 35spl Dana 70 'bolt into' a Dana 60 rear hub?

This is my situation, i have a line on some D70 35spl shafts/spindles. These are out of a mid 70's F-350

I also have a line on a D60 FF housing out of a mid 70's F-250.

Im figuring since my searching didn't turn up too much info, that D70 spindles won't just 'bolt on' to D60 flanges. I have read a lot about just machining the D60 spindles, so no questions there. Im assuing since the F-350 and the F-250 are basically the same truck (no duallys here), that the width of the D60 and D70 are probably close to the exact same (havn't been able to go measure yet). The way i figure it, i could just throw the D70 shafts into the D60, pick up a D60 35spl spool or detroit, and go.

Like i said i found one thread where OS said something along these lines but i just wanna make sure before i go spending too much $$. TIA

Are you talking front or rear? I got a little lost in your post.

But from what I gather you want to know if the spindle is a bolt on item? No, the spindle is welded on, if you swap spindles (D70 or 14 bolt) you need a jig to properly align the spindles. Assuming you are talking about rear axles.

Yes, you can put 70 spindles onto a 60 and then use the 35 spline 70 shafts..however, there is some welding/jigging involved. Both FF 60's and 70's have the spindles welded on and they need to be removed and swapped (Well only the 70 ones swap..throw the 60 ones away). You could reuse the 35 spline axles providing that they are exactly the same width. However, if you need to shorten the 70 shafts, there is typically a minimum amount that must be removed due to some necking down just after the splines. You can easily see this by pulling the shaft and looking.

I think what he was really asking (and correct me if I'm wrong) is can he bore the D60 spindles and use the D70 SHAFTS. Is the axle flange pattern the same between the 70 and the 60.

I don't know, best way would be to check and see.. but then as you (and others have pointed out) the axle shafts would have to be the exact same length, or be narrowed (if possible).

If the housings are the same width, the D70 will more likely than not be shorter than the D60 shafts, due to the wider carrier of the D70...

You all should be ashamed for hijacking scoutkid's thread. He is obviously trying to suck up to OldScout and ya'll are foiling his plans :flipoff2:

BTW Scoutkid, if you think rear full floating 60's and 70's have flanges for the spindles to bolt onto you didn't do a very thorough search.

So search:flipoff2:

im a little retarted, i forgot the 60 i have has discs on it so it has bolt on flanges. thanks for making me feel at home :flipoff2: yeah, i really just wanted to see if the damn 70 shafts would bolt to the 60 hubs. that is all. :)
