8.8 axle, you say, hmmm I recall I used to run one of those "back in the day":D Its all about 14 bolt axles nowadays:flipoff2:
Hahaha, I just left the sensor in place.
Here is nice trick you should do for the 8.8, while your working on it. The location of the filler plug, on the front side of the diif housing, is a good set up for big lifts, due to the fact that as you raise the pinion angle, you also raise the filler level, which helps maintaine adequate oil, to the higher pinion bearrings......But the higher oil level seems to limit the effectiveness of the vent tube on the driver side axle tube, to propperly vent the passenger side axle tube. I was continualy getting a lot of water finding its way into the passenger side tube, no matter what I did with the seals,(that is usually a sign of a bent shaft or poor axle venting. So I placed a new 1/4" NPT fitting up high on the diff housing, and ran the vent tube at that location, and abandoned the axle tube vent, by welding it closed.,.... the problem went away.

That is exactly what I did with mine. Works great.

Hey SOCAL,
I dont even know what it looks like under that plug. But i wouldnt waste another minute, or any money trying to solve it. Just weld it up, and grind it smooth. If the hole is to big to puddle weld shut, then cut a piece of 1/4" to fit in the hole and weld it,.... I guess what Im trying to say is just weld it . It may even be a good location to put your vent tube.
