I have a two-barrall manifold and need a carb….. I want a Truck Advenger but lack a new manifold. Anyone in Austin area that knows where to get one CHEAP let me know ( I heard that Bob sold his shop – Tree do you know?). I remember one of you guys talking about the Ford Motorcraft but you did not go into much detail…. Where can I find one of those? Is it going to require any weird parts?

If youve got your mind set on Motorcraft I've got one for $16.00 (Carb and Shipping)
It needs some parts and a rebuild, but it is super clean and nothing sticks.

PM if you want

I've researched this. Try searching Motorcraft 2100 And Autolite 2100.
After going to all the junk yards today, prices ranged fron $25-50, for a 2100 #108. $40 bucks for a good looking carb, that doesn't look like it need to be rebuilt. Lots of #121.
Seems to be a highly prized carb here. When a FI ford goes belly up, they stick a motorcraft on it.
If you're looking at a Truck Avenger, you might as will spend a little more for FI.
If you get a Ford carb, you will need a PCV adapter plate or you need to drill and tap the port.
I'm trying to do the carb trade for under $70. Carb and re-build kit, intake gaskets. Not sure why I came up with $70, but I really don't want to spend to much. I might try to trade 2 holleys for one motorcraft.
Found out my spare 345 that came with the free scout is a 304, no free 2 barrel intake for me. Next time someone gives me a parts vehicle, wipe off grease and look at the numbers before trusting what they say. I guess I need to find another free scout.

I just pulled a 4-Brl manifold off a '82 bus :). So I will order a Truck Advenger on Monday. Thanks for all who gave me advice.

How much did you pay for the manifold? just wondering, The junk yards around here are run by drug dealers, they must be high for the prices they want. $850 for a 345 that hasn't been run since '95 and a missing dist.
I'm still waiting for actual reports on the TA carb and the real world off-road experience. Not just a dirt road, but a trail with all the angles.
Are you going to lean out the carb? 670 cfm, to bad they don't make a smaller one.

You may want to start adding up what the carb is going to cost and weigh it against a FI set up.
I think I would even go Holley FI before I would go back to carb. But thats just my $.02
I buy complete GM FI systems off of 305's and 350 trucks 88-91
for $200 or less all the time. Unless you want a 454 or holley TB. then the price goes up. But you have to have some basic skills and understand wiring and fuel.
If your into buying something $$$ and bolting it on or paying someone to bolt it on, then stick with a carb.

again this is just my .02.
But they will run upside down...if you want to.

FI is

I wouldent wast my mony on a Truck Advenger. A properly rebuilt Q-jet will outperform a Truck Advenger anyday, I seen a budy run a truck advenger and I was not all that impresed (nor was he). Its still the typicle Holley float arangment is the problem

All the carb shops around here are asking the same price to rebuild a Q-jet as a TA is new. The Q-jet is rebuilt for 'off road' though. I really have never been that happy with my Q-jet.

Most of us dont have spread bore manni's to begin with. Making an adapter to fit a square bore is a PITA, I did it cuz the Q-jet was supposed to be the shizznit. I'm bolting up a TA as soon as funds allow. I do know the TA comes jetted rich for an IH. But most reviews I have read have been from 345's and 350 chebbies. Hopefully my 392 will enjoy it a little better.

The best carb I ever ran was a Holley 2300 on my 345.

I picked up the square bore for $50. Then a Truck Advenger will be under $400 total..... 450-ish is not that bad.......FI would cost more than I have. Holly TBI will be in the future.

Which carbs use square and which use spread? I know a few, but You guys have confused me.
